It's ironic that the reason the club gave for re signing Mary was for stability, but if the reports are true, and players or players managers don't want to play under Mary, then the re signing of Mary is already working against us for the future.
Players on the rise and wanting to progress their careers, look for a coach that will mentor them and help take their game to the next level.
If they come to St. George Illawarra, the cupboard is bare.
Why would they bother?

He seems to be a player whose form is too patchy and gets caught up in his own self importance rather than worrying about playing good football. If his attitude was right he would be playing SOO 2.

Saints already have a 1 million dollar a season player in Ben Hunt. I don't think they can afford another.

If I was to spend 1 mil on a player it is better to spend it on a spine player than a centre. If you have a quality centre and a bad spine he will not be as effective.

Plus Mitchell is not a fullback, if he was any good the Roosters wouldn't have gone after Tedesco.

Again, if you gave Mitchell at $1m and Hunt at close enough to $1m, then Norman at 750 may say well I'm worth that much and McInnes may akso put his hand up as the "spine" players. So close enough to say $3.5m on 4 players and lets use $10m as the cap, that leaves 26 players to share on average 250k. Vaughan, Friz, Lomax and the Sims boys for example would be looking elsewhere quick smart.

I'd recruit Mitchell if we could get him:

1. Mitchell
2. Saab
3. Lomax
4. Lafai - for now
5. Pearson
6. Norman
7. Hunt
8. RCG
9. McInnes
10. Vaughan
11. T Sims
12. Kaufusi
13. Frizell

14. K Sims
15. Lawrie/Kerr/Timm
16. Leilua
17. Host

It is questionable whether Hunt is on 1 mil, but it is close. We also have Widdop on a reported 950K a season, so Mitchell could take Widdop's pay and we would have to play him at fullback.

Clear out the dead wood and make the above first grade side happen. Then back fill with juniors and depth from other clubs.

Together with new coaching staff, SGI should be highly competitive for years to come.
