Who is better ? My take is Latu is the better player and I think Galvin is pretty darn good.

I don't like all the attention on Galvin because I think it distorts what he is doing out there. He is really good. I hope we keep him. I just don't see him as being as good as Latu.

I think Galvin has shown enough that he will have a long career in first grade. Fainu looks good too, but it's hard to really compare when he mostly comes off the bench. Galvin's inconsistencies are more exposed as teams are basing a gameplan around nullifying a starting half moreso than the bench utility. Hopefully Fainu gets an extended run in the starting side while Luai is in origin so we can see what he's got.

This is a fair point. Galvin is making mistakes but Latu isn't getting enough time to make those mistakes.

Galvin can play as well. He is really good. It's just Latu has that explosiveness that Galvin doesn't possess.

I don't think Galvin is playing as well as he did last year. He's not playing as straight and when he's taking the line on he often pulls up and looks for other options rather than going at it hard. These issues can be rectified easily enough though.

From what I've seen of Latu I'm impressed by his speed off the mark and he appears to have good footwork. Having said that I don't think he's started any games in the last year and a bit, and has not been selected at all for plenty. I just haven't seen enough of him to make any sort of opinion.

Looks like Luai may be gone for the next couple of weeks and if that is the case, hopefully we can see more of Latu for longer periods.

Next wk should be 7 Galvin & 6 Latu.It will be the youngest halves vs the oldest halves

I love how much scoring tries means to Latu with his celebration and setting them up that I’ve seen. Let’s make a judgement after we see Latu play.. shame it’s not with Luai. But everything for a reason

Different players. Galvin is more instinctive and off the cuff, he doesn’t play like a traditional 5/6, probably more like a combo of 1&7. If anything he is probably too enthusiastic and tries to score off every play.

Latu is more direct, straightens the attack and goes deep into the line. I haven’t seen enough of a kicking game to see if it’s good, as Galvins is pretty unde rated. Would also say Latu s a better defender.

Personally I think Latu might be a better fit for Luai and the team, I was very encouraged by how he went at 13, hope it gives us a reason to have him in the team moving forward.

Looking at Benji he had his guts turn out tonight. I wonder if enough to consider his options?

Did the guy Luai tackle go off .. if not he might be ok.. and this might be all conjecture.

It will give us hope moving fwd because if we don't throw the kitchen sink at Galvin then Fainu is still here and if things don't work out with Bud at Souths he has come back as depth.
It's a shame about AD as a tall man in the backs is an advantage as long levers are hard to handle in the wet.
I have to say Benji must learn how to coach a team for wet weather.
It's all about faster hit ups and quicker play the ball and shift are in red zones are bombs come into play more.

Latu will be a rocks or diamonds player in my opinion, think Shaun Johnson, some days you won’t believe what you’re seeing other days you’d wish you’d never seen him play footy.

Galvin is less flash his best plays won’t look like miracles but you’ll get what you need from him most weeks and his judgment and footy intelligence will get better the more games he plays.

Be nice to have both of them long term. They bring different styles to the game but I can see them complimenting each other. I don’t think Latu and Luai in the halves would work well, I think Galvin and Latu could be good, but one of them would have to step up and lead

I don’t think there’s been any greats in the halves that havnt always been inclined to straighten up the play.. this could be Galvins Archilles heal long term
I’m starting to think having Galvin and Latu on the field hopefully at 6 and 7 could be an even juicier “comparison” opportunity playing out in front of our eyes. .. I can’t believe the timing with it being so close to the Galvin D Day .. And against Brisbane.. I thought we were amazing yesterday. Just a shit last 10 that’s ok.. ..
T May never gets penalised ..He’s too disciplined and mentally tough for that.. he didn’t initiate that penalty against him!!! I loved his genuine toughness and intensity in that moment when he didn’t back down but he didn’t lose it either. It should have been play on..or penalty to us

Yes, halves have to straighten the play.
It's for this reason that out the back play has become more prevalent these days (basically two lines of runners giving the half at least 3 options
1. run straight and then pass deep,
2. A crash play, usually accompanied by a no look pass)
3. Grubber ingoal or to cnr for winger
Occasionally when D switches off on quick play the balls he may opt to dart for the line himself.
A good ½ should ice all 3 of those and sometimes score himself.
A good ⅝ is traditionally more of a running one and has the ability to play ½ on the opposite side. Basically first receiver.
The problem I see developing, is both Galvin and Luai are ⅝'s imo and Latu Fainu is more of a ½ or as he proved in the world cup, he can scoot away from the ruck to score, like he did yesterday and is a solid dummy half who can pass left and right.
Whilst The Chin was playing ½, Luai never going to play there but deputized quiet well because the team was not only a great one but knew each other's game. That role will take time with us because the team doesn't know him that we'll.
If Galvin pisses off I'm inclined the give Latu the ½ spot and a running type of ⅝ spot to Luai.
Basically you can't have 3 playmakers trying to do the one role.
If Latu was a bit taller and bigger he would be a great lock imo but that's a no unless we are down to 9 players :)
P.S. I agree about May. It should have been play on. Not a punch thrown. Ref, put the whistle away man.

I was heartbroken yesterday because we had adversity, overcome it and fought our way back.
Benji has to learn how to coach wet weather game footy. I'm not shooting him but he has to learn from it.
As WA said, May if unbelievable. He must be so fit and strong. Basically did most of the tough stuff with Poles help. Losing Samuela Fainu when we did was the last coffin nail.

We all had a win today, Aussie golfer Min Woo Lee, won a big PGA event. Even if you hate golf it's something that we should embrace, Aussie Aussie Aussie.

He deserves a massive wrap for his game yesterday. Toughness to me isn't about punching on. It's about being able to think for yourself and remain calm and in control.
