It was never reported that Hayne wanted Laurie gone. I was under the impression the NSW players wanted Laurie to return and felt they had let him down after the series loss.

RL fans are just too used to having the media hear this news before the coach even has a chance to find out...

Agree 100% But the chairman of the NSW Rugby league Geore Peponis also gave the impression that it was Laurie Daley's job if he wanted it. He admitted though there would a be process of a review and the board would have to rubber stamp it.

Obviously the board couldn't stomach the devastating loss, and felt it had no choice but to let Daley go.

To have the same coach for five years, is a good effort in state of origin. Daley was given more chances then previous coaches. I can see this as a positive for Daley too, it's a roller coaster ride and he was pretty gutted after the last loss. Gus Gould actually thought it would be in Daley's interests not to go through it again.

As for Laurie? Should've been done 12 months ago.

6 wins
9 losses

1 series win
2 series losses after going 1-0 up
Coach of the biggest loss in Origin history
Avoided a 3-0 white-wash by a candidate for 'Top 10 arsiest tries in Origin history'

Don't care how devastated he apparently was after the series loss- he had all the power to finish Game 3 with a big smile on his face and the shield in his hands- he had a team good enough, an unchanged squad and 3 weeks to make sure the squad was mentally prepped to emphatically show why they deserved to be crowned series winners.

Instead it was a limp performance, and I saw more passion for the cause from a 10 minute rant by Joey in the commentary box than I ever saw from Laurie in 4 years...

NSW score a single try in the second half, target JT and QLD aren't coming back. They had 40 minutes to seal the deal and instead tried to run down the clock with a 10-point lead- when any idiot watching at home could've told you that all QLD needed was a converted try to be right back into what had all the appearances of a 1-sided contest...

Even Ricky Stuart would've done better with that NSW team in the second half!
