Whilst I agree that this shouldn’t happen we essentially have a situation where Australians are playing for their ethnic team rather than their national team.

Daley belongs to that bizzare grouping in the rugby league world - along with people like Gus and Buzz- that really have no time for International rugby league, don't understand it and don't want to.

They truly believe that the NRL competition is the epicentre of the rugby league world followed by SOO. Their view of international rugby league is of the Kangaroo Tour which is just a glorified piss up to "reward the boys" on a big year and maybe the occassional Tri Nations. Strictly the Kangaroos, GB and NZ..

I wouldn't take ANYTHING Daley says about IRL seriously..

While I don't agree that an indigenous side should take part it is foolish to deny the benefits. It weakens a far superior Australian national side, instantly adds a challenger to an international scene that desperately needs challengers and would increase the overall competitiveness for the world cup.

On top of that it is not unheard of. The World Lacrosse Championship field an Iroquois team made of up Native Americans who are completely independent of the USA national team:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Lacrosse_Championship

The social consequences however are too heavy though, as splitting the teams effectively into blacks and whites would damage the already fragile race relations in this country.

If the indigenous population received proper constitutional recognition, treaty signed, increased social standing, then maybe it would be more appropriate. Maybe.

IMO if it ever occurs, it should occur simultaneously with a Maori side as well to perhaps lower the controversy. Though considering the decline of the New Zealand national side it may lower them into a tier 2 side.

None of this is going to happen of course.

Indigenous All Stars need a better opponent that the NRL All Tards, but this is just dumb...

Having sad that, the quote pretty clearly shows Daley being lead to an answer and him just being like "yeh, i guess its not a totally shit idea"

In an age where ever white man is called racists at some point.

I find it amusing that the very people who always call racism are the same people who want to be divided up according to race.

You can't make this shit up.

That's the far left-wing post modernist crew.
Your mistake was assuming they think rationally...

Yeah but even so it's still different because it's an Iroquois team not an Native American racial team.

The Iroquois are a confederacy of Native American tribes from the north east of the US and Canada made up of the Mohawk, Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora tribes, the Iroquois (like many Native American nations) are basically a self governing nation in their own right, they don't have borders as such, they can't collect taxes of their own, and they have to follow (most) fedral US laws and state laws, but in a lot of ways they are self governing, they (again like many Native American nations) are also looking to be recognised as a nation by the UN and the USA has given their concent for them to do this and is helping them do it (though the recognition would be largely symbolic), or at least they were before Trump got in.

The situation is a kin to Scotlands situation in the UK.

So yeah it's not a Native American team picked by race it's a tribal nation team that only members of that nation can represent, so it's a bit a different.

How would it weaken Australia? In Daleyworld Australia get to make the first selection and the indigenous team get the leftovers.

Because the public would assume Australia getting first pick isn’t fair. People genuinely believe Australia and NZ picking islanders born in Australia and NZ is robbing the island nations of their talent, I don’t see how this would be viewed any differently.

Australia is f**king weird
Can't believe we even sent the Maori team to the 2000 World Cup.
The future of the Indigenous team is v NZ Maori and both teams should be made up of players not picked in their national team. Neither should ever play in a world cup or a test match......ever!
yep exactly, Indigenous should only be playing either, the Maori, Pacific Island XIII or probably warm up/exhibition matches NOT in a MAJOR INERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT not even at a 9s World Cup!

But how would it weaken Australia if they pick what they believe is the best squad Australia can select regardless of ethnicity?

I guess people believe player would turn their backs on Oz like Fifita.

A lot of them would pick the indigenous side over Australia, and if they didn't they'd be called race traitors by a lot of people in this country, and there'd be a lot of stupid opinion pieces in the media, people calling racism, etc.

It's just a stupid idea, but if it gains traction it'll be a dammed if you do and a dammed if you don't situation for the sport down here, cause no matter what the RLIF chooses they and the NRL will be called racist in the media down here and it'll cause a big hullabaloo.

Daley's been smoking crack.

Only countries should be in the World Cup. Not even a merged side like the West Indies.

The future for the Indigenous side is to play a Pacific All Stars side. Play it on the Friday before the Grand Final and it will rate 2.5-3.5 million nationally. It will become a new Origin.

Yeh, the only alternative to national teams that should be considered for the international scene is combines teams for groups of countries who cant get a team together on their own (Latin Heat, Africa United), and even, just in 9s or tours; not in the RLWC....

I don't know about that, I can understand some areas maybe wanting to have their own representation separate from the nation that they are officially part of, similar to the situation in the UK.

Obviously I'm not actually suggesting that any of these teams should exist (or that any of them ever will), just stating that I wouldn't have a problem with them existing if those areas could support a competitive team on their own and wanted one for reasonable geopolitical and/or historic reasons.
For example I'd have no problem with an Iroquois team like in lacrosse, or if Hawaii wanted independent representation from the US and could support a competitive team I probably wouldn't have a problem with that either (under the right circumstances), Catalans being separate from France and Spain is another that I would support (again under the right circumstances).

I'd even be fine with an Aboriginal or Maori tribe/confederacy of tribes (I know no such confederacy exists at least in the case of Aboriginal tribes) having their own team if they could support it.

However I have serious, serious problems with racialist teams that people are only eligible for based on race, I'm even uncomfortable with the Indigenous All stars if I'm honest.
