But mate the Lions and Bears have ALWAYS received decent support from our government. Well before they even knew what a sell out was.

The reason the Gabba is getting an upgrade is bcause the Lions get a full house at nearly all games. From what I have seen on TV, the Storms attendances are pathetic. This lack of attendance should be blamed on the NRL.

how do you know that a better facility wont bring in more fans? as most of you know olympic park is ancient. there is no leg room between you and the next seat and the seats are so small most people can only get one "cheek" on the them and we all know about the fact the the running track make you further from the ground and one thing that isnt mentioned much is the toilets, there isnt enough and the ones they do have arent in the best condition. so if these things are fixed how do you know that it wont draw better crowds. sometimes its just un-comfortable, and even though i never miss a storm home game, i would much prefer to be comfortable and thats not the case sometimes, comfort may draw bigger crowds.

Gabba upgrade was for the Cricket as much as it was for the Lions.
You cannot deny that increased public interest will also generate government interest.
The VIC government has no incentive to upgrade OP while the storm have poor crowds.
Don't get me wrong I am all for the Storm. I just believe that the NRL are relying on the Storm to do all the preaching on behalf of the code instead of helping out.

The Vic government isn't interested in anything but AFL, it's what happens when there is no Minister for Sport, just the Minister for AFL.

Totally agree with this, the NRL's Victorian advertising budget is about $0 from what I can tell.
