Hi everyone. have noticed a huge groundswell of negativity ( well more than usual ! ) over the past couple of months. A lot of the frustration comes from our lack of us forcing any changes. Well thanks to Dragons Fury on facebook , they have alerted that the club has a special on full membership ( which has voting rights ) $ 17 for 7 years. Go to https://stgeorgeleagues.com.au/membership.../newmembership/ It was easy to join so it gives us ( in some small way ) some h control in pissing off the long term directors and holding the new ones to account. Make sure it is full membership and not associate .

Thanks, saw that this morning myself . I have been thinking about joinging the club for some time so now is probably the time with a great offer on the table and what may occur (or not occur) next year, whilst I may only have one voice at least I will hopefully get more information/feedback on the club than I do now which wouldnt be hard.

My renewal is due on 31/12.

You get to go to the agm and vote on the board. Apart from that there is basically nothing.

The football club is a closed shop, or almost. The Leagues Club appoints the footy club board from its own board members. Then some of those go on to the SGI Board.

If someone goes in on a promise to be more football club orientated then we will be ready to vote for that ticket. I believe a couple of years back you could join but didn't have voting rights for 3 or 4 years.

The Footy Club you (if still the same) need to be non and seconded by 2 footy club members.
The Leagues Club (supposedly) don’t like randoms standing for the board. Yes, a few years ago I’m told new members were shepherded into Assoc Member category and the no vote eligibility came in.

I’ve been a member since Jan 1980, so no first hand experience of those shenanigans

I just entered todays date. No way im spending the time to flick back month by month.
Just remember only a few (4?) of the Leagues Club board make it to the SGI board, and then they are only half of that board.

Good idea but before you get too excited about voting directly on the merged venture board make sure you read the fine print. There are few levels of board before the one you are after.
There used to be a 5 year minimum of membership before you got a shot at them?.. but now that may have changed

Yes, if you want to have a say, albeit in the long-term this is the way to go about it.

If you stand for election at the Leagues Club you need to be bringing something to the Leagues Club first and foremost, not just some anti SGI board rhetoric, otherwise you won't be voted in. You would probably need to be from that LGA to be considered by the members, too. There are currently 22,797 members.

The non-football members on the Leagues club board are currently an accountant, doctor, school teacher and a company director.

A ticket to get on the Leagues Club board was run a few years ago by former St.George Secretary John Fleming’s son. It was well promoted seeking change. I even made the effort to head up to the Leagues Club to vote. He failed to get In. So beware, it is not as easy as about a dozen people signing up & waltzing in demanding change. Having said that I’d vote for anyone seeking a vote for change.
