SALFORD City Reds are set to break new ground in January by playing a competitive Rugby League match in the United States for the first time ever.

MEN sport can today reveal plans are in place for Salford to challenge Super League champions Leeds Rhinos in Jacksonville, Florida, in early January.

Talks for the match to be staged at the University of Florida's Hodge's Stadium complex are at an advanced stage.

Official confirmation and the date of the fixture are expected to be announced later this week.

Does that mean that Souths won't be going next year?

Or, does it mean they'll host two games at JAX?

Souths were looking at San Fran or was it San Diego? I'm not even sure Souths'll be going back TBH.

Guys, I will get to release info about this very soon.
Not able to release much at the moment due to various details that need to be sorted but it looks good to go for January.
Souths are unable to come for various reasons but one consideration is the number of players they have in the World Cup Squads, the long season they have all endured (They started training in early Jan and the WC guys are going into November which means they have had a 11 month season and to have to turn around in just one month off to travel all the way to the USA was a huge ask) and the amount of dollars the a trip like this takes to arrange.
We are still very excited about the two teams we are working with.

Good luck with this Spinner. It'd be great if two pro clubs played in Jacksonville annually!
