LETS PICK THE BEST TEAM EVER

All you can do is pick the team you have seen if you are being fair dinkum.

BUT if I was forced to try and put the greatest team ever together I'd have to rely on what I know, what others know and how much you respect others opinions from the past.

I'll post the former team. And considering in the 80s for example you didn't need 4 fresh reserves the need for a 'balanced' bench isn't needed. Just the best players when they were at their peak with overall careers factored in.

1. Darren Lockyer
2. Steve Renouf
3. Mal Meninga
4. Laurie Daley
5. John Ferguson
6. Wally Lewis
7. Ricky Stuart
13. Bradley Clyde
12. Paul Sironen
11. Jason Smith
10. Glenn Lazarus
9. Steve Walters
8. Shane Webcke

14. Brad Fittler
15. Allan Langer
16. Andrew Johns
17. TBA... don't want to leave anyone out!

Constructed in 10mins... more research needed for a definitive team!

You mean in your opinion.
I think we can also read what's been written and take on board recollections from other people.
If we don't do that, then we aren't being fair dinkum... in my opinion.

So I can assume than in a greatest ever soccer team you would exclude the likes of Pele, Di Stefano and Cruyff ?

You'd leave Wilt Chamberlain from a basketball team ?

You'd exclude Rod Laver from a list of the greatest tennis players ?

You'd exclude Bradman and Sobers from a greatest cricket team ?

what a load of bollocks

fair dinkum my arse

you pick the team you think is the best, if that means you know [or think you know] something about the games history and past players through books or the internet, if you listen to relatives who saw players [or old guys at a pub who seem well versed in league!] well before you were born that is no less relevant than going on who you saw live or on telly

the mistake an 'expert' panel made when selecting the balmain tigers team of the century, ignore all the forwards that won the premierships in 15,16,17,19,20 and 24 for jokes like steve roach [but we all saw him didn't we!,- yes if you are under 18 you will struggle to remember him but you know what i mean]

and steve renouf! wouldn't make an all time red hill scab /broncos first XIII

Ummm did you happen to read the 2nd part of that?

Perhaps not.

What I'm saying is there is no way a person can categorically declare the greatest team of all time based on their own opinion. But if you are FAIR DINKUM you CAN pick the greatest team you've seen. That was my point. I wasn't saying you can't pick the old players just cause you didn't see them, I was however saying if you were creating a team based on your opinion then its really not realistic to pick the players you've never seen. If you put 3 or 4 people together in a room with varying years of league watching between them... you've got a much better chance of covering a wider range of players and narrowing them down.

Does that make any more sense or will you just read the first line of my post and tee off again?

Perhaps Kiwi thinks we should only pick players from the last 20 years.

I thought we were talking about fullbacks. But for the record, I'd have Sterling and Kenny in the halves. I'd have Tallis in the second row next to Provan... poor Norm, another relic.

Narh was just shit stirring I will be voting and do think generally the team will be a great team, about the only thing I was being serious about was Lockyer being the best.

So is this "the best team ever" chosen from every player including non Aussies and those greats who played in NZ, France and England or is it just the best ever Aussie team?

Btw, Churchill for fullback.
