LG ends association with Sharks

Where does this leave the NRL? They need 16 teams for next season. They have 3 options
1. Bail out the Sharks to the tune of $3mill+ to keep them going next year
2. Make them an offer they can't refuse to move to the CC or somewhere else
3. Let them die and bring in another team (only bid realistically capable would be Bears on CC but even then to is fraught with problems to ruch a team in)

Gallop has every right to ermmmmmm this one!

Tough call. There isn't enough time for a club to get off the ground for next season, so I guess the only real option is to prop them up for next season, then have a new team for 2011. Whether they stay in the Shire or go abroad is the hard decision, but, you can't move this mess anywhere and expect them to be embraced at the moment.

Believe it or not, posted today on www.sharks.com.au:

Sharks join forces with InterPark

Thursday, May 21, 2009
Amidst difficult economic times and negative press speculation as to the financial health of the club, the Sharks are pleased to announce a new sponsorship agreement with InterPark, Australia’s newest major car park manager.
The first piece of good financial news in some time, Sharks officials were hoping the new sponsorship signing would mark the changing of the tide.
“We are extremely pleased InterPark has thrown their support behind the Sharks and we hope it will lead to a long and fruitful partnership between us,” Sharks Chairman Barry Piece said. “It has been well documented that times are tough at present, with this new sponsorship arrangement certainly a positive development.”
InterPark Managing Director Peter Stewart, a long time Sutherland Shire Resident and Sharks fan, was pleased to be able to lend the support of his company in what is a time of need.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to assist the club at this difficult time,” Mr Stewart said. “We believe the Sharks to be a club with genuine integrity who have been extremely proactive in dealing with any player behavioural issues in recent years.
“We look forward to developing a relationship with the club which will lead to much larger sponsorships in the years ahead.”
At this stage the InterPark sponsorship is for the remainder of the 2009 season, with the Stewart and the Sharks to explore the possibility of extending and expanding the arrangement into the future.
InterPark is Australia’s newest major car park manager and currently manages facilities in Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle, with the company reporting very strong growth despite the economic downturn.
During what are well publicised financial concerns for the Sharks, Stewart encouraged other Sharks supporters to follow InterPark’s lead.
“We’d certainly encourage other business people living in the area to get involved with supporting the club,” Stewart said.
Still on sponsorship matters and the Sharks would like to clarify the position of club sponsor Westfield Miranda. Contrary to reports circulating in the media, Westfield Miranda remains a sponsor of the Sharks and will in fact be the match day sponsor for the local derby match this weekend against the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Totally agree..... plenty of other clubs have been shown up as doing little to nothing about it... Good on the Sharks and congrats to supporters... now all you need is to show up on game days....

Rubbishing LG isn't the solution to the problem. The withdrawal of their sponsorship isn't the primary reason for the mess the club is in. Fixing the Sharks is the problem.

The Sharks have essentially jumped themselves.

You are damn right its a business, and clubs are being anally raped to suit TV ratings.

Grounds used to be packed you could go on a sat or sun afternoon watch 3 games and have a great day.

Now you cop a timeslot that suits TV and bugger the crowds, ironically whats a good time slot for TV is a crap one for crowds.

Sure there is big money in broadcasting sport, unfortunately for the clubs they see farkall of the revenue generated.

Bingo!

They put every bloody game to air these days and most of them live.

They get everyone to buy foxtel and wonder why there's no supporters in the Grandstand.

Worse still the NRL got f**ked over with the Television rights.

So the Clubs lose their patrons and don't get adequately compensated in T.V money.

f**k the media!

Aren't crowds basically as high as they have ever been?

I don't like LG and i dont own a single LG product, however i really can't blame them for pulling the pin on (choosing not to renew) the sharks sponsorship. I mean can anyone really blame them? what do they ave to gain by remaining associated with a sinking club that can't keep itself out of the headlines? I think they were pretty forgiving about the whole Greg Bird incident when most sponsors would have just ditched them then.

So, you were around when the Sharks stabbed the NSWRL in the back and joined a competition that wanted to kill off clubs like Wests, Souths and Balmain?

I'm sorry for the fans. This sucks, and no one should go through it. But the club can rot in hell.
