LG ends association with Sharks

If poeple are fair dinkum about showing how much sponorship exposure the nrl provides then everyone who follows the game would boycott LG.

I for one will be emailing LG to let them know as a rugby league supporter I will not be buying their products. I'll also let them know I'll be encouraging a boycott among my family, friends and anyone else I can grab by the lapels in the street.

I will also point out their double standards in continuing to support Dockers (whoever they are, see El Diablo's post).

I will also point that the rugby league community literally comprises millions of Australians, who they are at risk of alienating.

The rugby league community cannot afford to let corporations feel their abandonment of the game will have no repercussions in the market place.

I bet Sheens signs Simmons before anyone else is signed up.

Well I'll be emailing them telling them that I intend to buy more of their products due their wonderful decision.

The Rugby League community cannot afford to have scum like the sharks remain in our midst.

Bravo LG.

Before you do that, imagine you were a fan of the LG company, rather then the Sharks. Imagine your letter then saying this.

"Dear Cronulla Sharks, as a supporter of LG, I am appauled at how your recent reputation has damaged ours. You have not held up your standard to ours and I hope that the LG administrators cease all interaction with your club. I will never support the Cronulla Sharks again. Including buying merchandise, going to games and even watching them on TV"

Pot and the kettle a bit dont you think?

LOL And as I scroll down to write a post there's an LG advert under the thread page!

Look I don't really blame LG for bailing, honestly the Sharks have had some negativity for quite some time.
Sponsors come and go, it doesn't mean the club is finished...LOL geez I think people are giving LG too much credit here.
Besides they're a sh*tty brand.

Thanks mainly to the geographic and demographic nature of Sydney though...

That and the Parramatta economy is second to the CBD in Sydney. The fact that Parramatta isnt as successful as the Roosters and Broncos (financially) is a disgrace to the previous board and administration. How on earth they havent taken advantage of this massive wealth is astonishing.

Gee, the Shire V half of Perth.

Wonder why they decided to stick with the Shockers ;-)

Seriously ... Does EVERY bad RL issue have to come back to a comparison with the AFL? FMD, the fear and paranoia is astounding

Are you serious?

Your poxy f**king shirtlifters game is so underwhelming in the places its about to move into, I'm borderline embarrassed for it. Beaten by everything on Saturday nights...

The issue is that that they have other sponsorship deals with teams that have a less than savoury record when it comes to violence against women, and they haven't cancelled that sponsorship.

Comprendi?

Well that's the thing, Parramatta once managed competently will be a powerhouse in Australian sport.

Thanks to screwing over a much stronger club in 1966 :)

haha

You won't buy a brand because it doesn't want to renew a sponsorship deal with a team that gets small crowds, can't win, has been embroiled in a tawdry group sex scandal, had a player glass his girlfriend last year (I know he was stood down, but LG only has to concern itself with the image of the club and that was not a good look no matter how it was handled), had its CEO punch a female employee and pay her hush money, is coached by Ricky Stuart, and now has had a player test positive to performance enhancing drugs.

They have every right in the world to make this decision, and at the end of the day it won't have anything to do with ethics or morality. The Sharks are in trouble financially and they're not a good marketing tool right now, why would LG give them money to wear their brand?

It's also just amusing to think about how casually your letter will be disregarded upon opening. Still, good on you for taking a stand I suppose.

The double standards in reporting bad behaviour in NRL and AFL have to be exposed relentlessly. If we don't force the issue who will? It's a good strategy to consistently email columnists when they apply these double standards pointing out (politely) the error of their ways. El Diablo's posts contain good ammunition for such adventures.

Firstly, Two wrongs don't make a right. Deal with the issue of how the media treats the game like a turd, not demand that other sports deal with the same sh*t RL does. Force the media's hand via lockouts etc like the AFL threaten to do.

Secondly, given El-D provided media sources to justify his sooking ... You've completely missed the point he was making.

Where does this leave the NRL? They need 16 teams for next season. They have 3 options
1. Bail out the Sharks to the tune of $3mill+ to keep them going next year
2. Make them an offer they can't refuse to move to the CC or somewhere else
3. Let them die and bring in another team (only bid realistically capable would be Bears on CC but even then to is fraught with problems to ruch a team in)

Gallop has every right to ermmmmmm this one!

Australia domestic market for LG - tiny.
Worldwide domestic market for LG - massive.

Plenty of other brands have pulled out of the Australian domestic market e.g. Hitachi, NEC because the sales figures in this country are only a speck in the grand scheme of things.

So a few cranky supporters threatening to never buy their products again? Won't rate anything except something in their Customer Service department to chuckle about.

Pretend you're the MD of the Australian arm of a family brand. Would you want YOUR brand associated with the Sharks after everything that's happened?

I'm actually surprised it took this long for them to make an announcement!
