Jesus Screeny...my sport is tougher than your sport. So bloody what? Boxing is tougher than RL, but you don't hear them taunting you. RL players are bloody wusses when compared to boxing...you..you..RL apologist.
The thread didn't ask for comments by users on the relative merits of boxing compared to rugby, though, did it, Thomas?

It asked for opinions about Ru compared to RL in a playing context.

I pointed out that the biggest difference between the two is the physical gulf between the two sports.

Stick to the subject, Tom. If you want to deviate and get hysterical, do it somewhere else.

All I'm asking for is a lucid argument from a union fan as to why union's tougher than league. Is that too much to ask?

Look, it's easy: union's better at scrums and lineouts than league, and rolling mauls, too. I admit it.

You know, I played Aussie Rules for the first time in my life last year. I have never been so flogged before in my life. I was knackered after the first 1/4 and the hits (especially the sheperds off the ball) were more ferocious than any I got playing league. At least in RL and RU you know where the tackle is going to come from. With Aussie Rules you can get smashed from any angle.

But like RL and RU...its a different sport. I thought the cross code challenge last year proved that.

We have a bloke who played Aussie Rules last year who says the same thing. You never know where or when the hit is coming.

Since you seem to be the only one concerned with what code is "tougher" lets have a look.

tough
adj. tough·er, tough·est

Able to withstand great strain without tearing or breaking; strong and resilient:Well considering both codes suffer injuries that has to be a draw

Hard to cut or chew:Lot of fans on both sides find the other code hard to swallow, so again a draw.

Physically hardy; rugged: There are hard men in both codes. Fitness across the park is more important in League. But you will be hard pressed to find a League player more fit than top class open side flankers.

Aggressive; pugnacious.
Inclined to violent or disruptive behavior:
League fans win hands down here.
Demanding or troubling; difficult:Each code has its different demands, draw again

n.
A violent or rowdy person; a hoodlum or thug
Unfortunetly League fans win hands down again.

There you go take out the fans and its pretty even.......

Ohhh in case you are wondering, YES I am laughing AT you.

I don't care if you're laughing at me, pal.

I listed my points on the previous page and you can't mount a suitable defence because your union game is inferior to league.

Instead all you can do is try and change the subject and start waffling on about NZ club rugby being really, really violent.

I salute you. You do your sport proud.

Why is it that not one union fan can lucidly defend their sport when challenged lucidly to its physical inqdequacy compared to league? I wonder.......

Its a different sport, you angry man. RL is tougher than RU...does that make it a better sport? To you yes..to me no.

You'd have to be daft to think that RU is "tougher" than RL. I mean, you guys get 5 tackles each....you get 10m to run at each other....you then get to kick the ball. There is no, absolutely no, competition for the ball. Look, I like league, in fact....nearly everyone on this board likes league. Its a bloody RL site to start with.

Does being a "tough" sport make RL better? I for one think not. RL is a simple game with simple rules. I enjoy watching it but find it monotonously boring. Its fun to play, but boring to watch. 3 hit ups..swing it wide...then kick it. I played it for 5 years and played at a decent level here in Australia, but when I played my first game of RU I was hooked. I didn't find RL to be tougher, but I didn't play in the forwards in RL...so I didn't have to do the hitups. What I did find was that you could have a rest if you wanted in RL. There are only 5 tackles...so obviously you didn't get hit all the time. When I played RU (I played flanker) I was absolutely stuffed after 5 minutes, because there wasn't one stoppage. I sprinted from ruck to ruck and got pummelled...and I couldn't have a rest like you could in RL.

Every time there is a tackle in RL there is a stoppage. If you are on the attack and are tired you could always hang back and wait for the next tackle to inject yourself. In defence (I had no trouble getting back for the 10 metres rule...its not that hard), you aren't always tackling so you can mark your man and stay your 10 until you have to come up. Sure..the hits are big in RL, but Screeny...you have 10 metres to line someone up. In RU, you are lucky if you have 5.

As I said...2 different sports. They both have their merits.

Thomas,

At least you can admit the obvious and say you agree that RL is physically tougher. I can't tell you that blue is better than orange. If you prefer orange that's your choice. If you prefer RU fair play to you.

But for two sports that share a lot of technical similarites (and players) finding comparisons and contrasts is entirely feasible. I just get amused that RU fans are so insecure they can't admit that league is by far the harder sport to play physically. Enjoy union for what it is, but don't try and make it something it clearly ain't.

Ozbash, your comment doesn't make much sense. Please re-read it and try and type something coherently please.

What's wrong with being 5'8"? There's a reason why Little People always try to take over the world you realise   .

Rugger Can be just as Physically demanding. Of Course, My Experiences at the Rake (Need More fat  . Skinny men shouldn't be Hookers  ) might alter my perception.

he he he...

Stewbum has seen the light!!!!!!

and just to inflame screeny, in my first game of union I was told to 'always' get to the breakdown and clear out.

So I did, never ran that much in a game of league, or my life for that matter.

I was stuffed when that game ended...
