The Scottish Rugby Union will today offer Kevin Locke the opportunity to switch codes, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The former Warriors NRL fullback, now with Salford Red Devils, is understood to be meeting SRU bosses who will make him a contract offer that could see him switch to rugby union in time to compete for a spot in their World Cup squad.
"We plan to have a chat with Kevin and are ready to make him an offer if he wants to move to rugby union," said SRU chief Mark Dodson.
"It is down to him to decide what he wants to do. If he does, then we will take things from there."
If Locke does move to union, he would play within the Scottish League and be fast-tracked into the international set up in similar fashion to former Crusaders speedster Sean Maitland. Locke qualifies for Scotland through his father.
The Scots first showed an interest in Locke last year and assumed he was happy at Salford ahead of their discussions with Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash who is interested in off-loading Locke and his troublesome groin problems.
