Not saying this is necessarily a "like for like" comparison but it can give you an idea. In 2016, Peter O'Sullivan, who was the Roosters recruitment manager at the time, got this kid playing under 20s for the Broncos to sign with the Roosters for 2017. At the time he'd played for the Qld under 20s team but wasn't considered a big name.
In 2017, turing 21 that year he made his first grade debut in Round 12 that year. He only played a few first grade games and played in the NSW Cup Grand Final for Wyong against Newtown.
2018, he played 8 games in first grade, many off the bench. He wasn't in the GF squad.
2019, he played in 14 games in first grade, again moistly off the bench. He again didn't make the first grade squad.
2020, he became a regular first grader playing 19 games that year. He also became a Qld Origin player that year. Since then, he's been a regular first grader and Qld Origin player.
The player? None other than Lindsay Collins.
Now O'Sullivan identified him, but selection and his development? That was on the coaching staff.
Same applies in this case with LPT. He may have the raw talent, but the Dragons coaching staff need to help him develop that.
