Probably because Morris is a good and creative player wherever he plays - and if he doesn't play hooker then I don't know who does! Webster certainly isn't a first grader - he's useful as an impact player for 25-30 minutes, but just doesn't cut the mustard for a full game! And considering he's the next option then it looks like there's no real option for this year - which is why we HAVE to sign Mears - the only player who looks dangerous out of dummy half (out of the players listed)

As for making the 8 - I don't think Smith (and lots of fans) will give up until it is mathematically impossible... so don't expect Morris to be tried at 5/8 until then...

Resign Stapelton even if it means we can get one less player. None of them are really the type of player the eels would rate as HIGH priority. Otherwise maybe Feeney or Mears.

I have 3 points to make:

1) Where do you suggest the money is going to come from to sign 3 more "reasonable players" ?

2) Who says we are going to sign "3 more reasonable players"? What, a friend of a friend who is Denis Fitzgeralds 5th cousin.

3) We need a great half, not just a "reasonable" one, and I am hesitant to put any of the halves left on the market in the "reasonable" category, let alone great.

And Dykes was 5-8 of the year at Sharks in 2001. Doesn't mean we should opt for either for 2005.

I say re-sign Stapleton for a year, maybe Hopkins and maybe Thorman too, unless someone better is in the offing. But I've got a slight suspicion that Parra might be scanning available players from English League as well as NRL?
