Are we selecting the best TEAM? Or the best players in each position? Sounds like the latter - in which case Brett Kenny clearly beats John Simon at five-eight. But in an all-round team, I'd move Kenny to centre and put Simon at 5/8. Kenny was an outrageously good centre, too.

any side that doesn't have Brett Kenny in it at 6 is truly laughable. Was Simon a better 6 then Kenny??? Not on your life, was Kenny a better centre then Crow or Zip zip??? That's even debatable, so it is absolute madness to not have him in any side at 6.

If junior's defense was sometimes bad Id hate to see how burt's rated.

The problem is the massive leap in class after Eric senior.

It's a choice of two marginal test players or a bloke who never had a chance of playing origin.

If you have to pick one of them Id take Eric Jr, on the basis that he could terrorise even the opposing wingers on the other best of sides. Burt and glover would struggle at that level.

but if you are fair dinkum about the best side then the second winger is whichever of thornett and hayne missed out on fullback.

Exactly BF. If the end result is best ever side, my selection would be FB The Mayor, wings Grothe and Hayne.
If selecting wings without considering Hayne then my selection would be Grothe and Dave Irvine. Every great side needs speed and my God, Dave Irvine was the fastest player Ive ever seen.
