How do ( at the time of his signing) double wooden spooners get him to sign for a lot less money...especially those last 3 seasons? Where does one get a gun that big to hold against his head??

He isn't signed for those last 3 years. He has a 1.2 million option in his favor for 3 years. I don't see how anyone can say that is a good deal for us. We've given him that option to get him to sign for 2 years.

It's amazingly stupid and one sided and the announcement about him signing for 5 years is BS. On top of that everyone's favorite CEO has spun bullshit about that contract until the press somehow found out the details. He is playing supporters like dummies.

If we had a mutual option for those last 3 years it'd be great but that doesn't seem to the case.

Have you read the Bula last year contract. That makes more sense. He can go to market if we aren't prepared to pay him 900k or he accepts 800k. That is a significantly better contract.

In stating all of that I don't give a toss because 2 years is a long time. Let's see what happens.

I’m more pissed that Richo talks about transparency, but we find this stuff out from the journalists where he said we wouldn’t.

Richo didn’t lie tho..And he got the sale ..Without Luai there’s no Turuva and No May probably..(btw I think Pascoe would have stuck his nose in before Benji could and somehow scared luai off) we only have to hit top 8 and progress from there not a huge ask.. if it is a problem with the team we’ve got Benji moves on and we get a coach that can do the job..worse case scenario we lose someone on $1.2mil and keep the rest. A fair clause but still hard to walk away from that dosh

Right...but we had no...none...zero bargaining power to dictate any terms and I'll bet it was the 5 years ..no matter what the options were was what sealed the deal. What's to worry about? He won't want to leave without proving his doubters wrong and he'll have 5 years minimum to do it. He had an an unchallenged spot at the 4 time premiers yet chose the multi spooners for a few hundred k more that he could've gotten from most any other club in between. Does that seem like someone who would walk away just because he can? I think we put all our chips on the table to get him and we weren't going to bluff our way to anything better.

In my opinion he did. He didn't tell the truth. Did he announce a 2 year contract with a 3 year bullshit option with no benefit to the Tigers.

It's a shit clause. The only positive is that it's so much money and as you state it'll be hard for him to get more but all the risk is on us.

Might be naive but this clause doesnt worry me at all, the year ties in with the new tv deal so id say its more aorund him getting paid.

I like it. Scott Prince was able to deliver a premiership in two years. Luai should be able to do the same as well and if he can't, he gets to have further bites at the cherry if he wants. It's also a warning to the club to keep a lid on it's bullshit. Luai can walk if they can't keep their act together.

Wouldn’t you have put that clause in if u were Luai.. with the prospect of 7 wooden spoons. I mean it’s not likely but hey the place may be a haunted house with evil spirits and spells giving the devil controlling rights as he sees fit.. I mean no club could be this bad without the chance of more of the same

8 wooden spoons.. He’d be scarred for life.. Luai’s name would be in those 5pm game shows .
Qn: for $1m who is the loosingest captain in the history of nrl. He had to put the clause in to save him from that

He’d have to spend all his money on changing his identity. He’d end up looking like Julian Assange and broke fk that

Are you serious ?

You've got it ass backwards. Every human being in the world would take that option. It's got nothing to do with 7 wooden spoons either. It's just a really good deal. It's so good it's unbelievable.

The question to ask is would you give out a contract like that ? There is no way in hell I'd do that. It's so dumb.

Options come with a cost. They don't come free. We've given it out for free.

I really don't give a shit though. Let's see what happens.

I'm a bit like that too.
The thing that would hurt the most is come 1st Nov he could be a free agent and even if we were moving up the ladder that could rock the ship.
As Benji and Co are trying to get the club moving fwd the anchor could be the uncertainty of Luai's future at the club.
Players like Galvin and Makasini could fall over board.
It should have been 3 years at the club regardless of the options!
As I said with Bateman, I don't want to hear any more about what's happening with him.
Let's move fwd.
With Luai it's the same. We need to hear or read nothing but good stuff.
It needs to be about the club now, about mates, about us, the long suffering loyal supporters.
