But he leads by example, and doesn’t seem to get others to follow him.
I think Luai, will lead by example and demand they follow him.
I hate the idea of co-captains.

The thing I'd add to your (fair) point is that while JL wasn't captain...or even co captain ..apart from perhaps a few shorthanded games at penrith he was acknowledged by many as the onfield and off field energy generator of that club. Maybe promise him the captaincy after Api retires...unless of course the NRL has a problem with that as well!.

I wish Benji would stop heaping the over the top praise of Api in the pressers as it embarrasses him and it looks tacky.

Speaking on the ‘Behind the Roar’ podcast, the gun five-eighth admitted his move to the Tigers will give him a chance to showcase just how good he can be as the chief playmaker.

“To sort of knock it on the head everyone just saw it (the Tigers offer) as a great deal to take, for me I love a challenge, I am a competitive dude,” Luai said.

The thing is Benji to me showed serious flaws last season but the players seem to like him. I mean clearly Bateman hates his guts but Bateman wasn't performing up to his contract value.

You can learn a lot by your mistakes and Benji was owning them last season.

I'm hopeful Benji has good tacticians around him and they come up with good game plans. If that happens and the players want to play with him maybe we'll get some magic.

I don't think we need a game plan as much as we need to play structured, disciplined footy. Cut out the errors, complete their sets and don't miss tackles bla bla bla.
However, unstructured eyes up footy will come naturally from Api, Luai, and Galvin. The rest need to get to their positions through out the game and do their bit.

There is a lot of truth here but I want to see this team be able to attack. I don't think you can just grind out a season and you need more than just "play some footy" when it comes to good attack.

Yeh I agree. The only right answer is the players need to understand what their role is and do it under fatigue and opposition pressure, and for 80+ minutes. That's why we train harder than we play. Sometimes we would train for 30min without stopping for breaks and sometimes we would simply walk through over and over and ....
When a player like Luai plays what seems to be off the cuff footy he knows in the back of his mind how his team mates have shaped the opposition's defense.
Not enough credit goes to players who do proper decoy runs or those who hit the ball up strongly and play the ball quickly.
When a team is suffering from fatigue, the opposition will get a wiff of it and the plays get quicker. It's these moments that well drilled teams like Penrith excel at.
So in essence train hard, play hard, get pissed, fall over then do it all again. I was very good at doing those last couple of things.

Might be just in the moment talk, but could Jarome Luai be the biggest signing of the NRL era?

Just look at it purely on terms of face value:

* Four time Premiership winning half
* Current Origin half who came up with the series winning play
* Captains his country
* Genuine Superstar and huge media/corporate profile
* 27 years old in the prime of his career

Coming to the team who has won the wooden spoon 3 times in a row and hasnt made the finals for 14 years. The only one I can remotely think of is Greg Inglis to Souths, however he wasnt a spine player and was forced from the Storm due to the Salary Cap Breaches.

I get that he hasnt set foot on the field for us and could still be a slop, but I'm talking purely about the signing, not the on field impact which is TBD.

The bloke is a winner.

The fact he developed a passable long kicking game this year bodes well for you guys.

Also the best defensive left sided half in the game.

The Broncos took years to replace Priddo and he had a CC around his neck within two years.

Kennedy went to Manly an showed their young future gun forwards how it's done.

Scott Prince did well for you guys but not sure his heart was ever truly with the club.

It was so untimely for us that the Tits were established 1 yr after we won the comp & recruited Prince as a marque signing for their inaugural ‘07 season
