I reckon Tiny May gets that no.4 spot,
Kenny at 9,
Nate at 6, Shneider at 7,
Leaves us needing one prop or 2nd rower short,
Or a utility for hooker as kenny and soro can sub in middles too
Luke Sommerton on the bench

I dont want us to chase some big name decent fantasy 6....

I dont want us to lose tago either... imo tago has the chops to be the best centre in the game...

Thats something ive said for 3 years. Not just the last 18 months. If he can get his body right he could be anything.

I thought its been obvious from my posts but i dont think its essential we have a big name 6.

Coggers done great. Sos did well albeit not much at 6.

Personally i love the signing of schnieder. I think its only got huge upsides.

Naths the best 7 in the game. Tracking as the best 7 ever.. weve seen him dominate at first receiver and 2nd.

Losing luai is a huge loss... but i think its coverable. Nath just has to take on more of a role both sides of the ruck.

Weve already seen he can handle it... he won us an almost unwinnable gf by doing it on one leg.

If losing luai frees up 700 or 800k thats huge.

Means we can probs keep tago, turuva and sign a young hooker and 2md rower which is where i think we are short...

So if you take the list of whose already locked up and add in luais coin... youd think we could move to locking up and be like this till 2026

Edwards
Too
Tago
4
Turuva
6
Nath
Leota

Fish
Marto
Soro
Yeo

Lindsay
Henry

Thats a lot of quality locked up and probs a bit of cash to spend too. Maybe 300 to 400k free..

Its not a good thing losing jerome

But its certainly not a terrible thing and its definitely something we can deal with imo.

Not saying you are.

Others have. $850k on another 6 while we could do it, weakens other positions

Not sure we even need a 2nd rower, Just need to keep money to re-sign guys as they are needed.

What do we read into the Bulldogs’ initial meeting with Jarome Luai?

That they didn’t make an offer is standard practice for Canterbury general manager Phil Gould and coach Cameron Ciraldo when it comes to dealing with their former club, Penrith. They would not want to be seen as encouraging players to leave the Panthers, even though they have two of their former stars, Matt Burton and Stephen Crichton, on their books.

Gould and Ciraldo simply wanted to gauge Luai’s thoughts. The Bulldogs will only get serious about talking dollars once Luai tells them he is definitely leaving Penrith. Until then, they will respect the Panthers.

Indications are that Luai is on the move. That has been the case since he employed a new management company, Black Money Enterprises, to explore his options.

It would be a far bigger surprise if he ignored the likes of Wests Tigers, the Bulldogs and others to stay with Penrith.

There has also been a lot made of the fact the meeting was conducted away from the prying cameras of the general public and professional photographers who take delight in capturing Gould with rival players.

Don’t forget, there was never a photo when Gould was wooing Ciraldo. In fact, at that time, Gould went to great lengths to have the meetings at a western Sydney hotel, where he even had CCTV cameras turned off.

I’ve been told the meeting with Luai was held in a similar location with the same level of effort put in to keep prying eyes away. The Bulldogs believe the story was leaked by a rival club, which found out about the discussions through Luai’s management.

There is a lot of rubbish on the market in the halves for 2024. Some that should retire like Milford, and some untested like Puru.
Given what has happened in the past with departures I wouldn't be surprised in the short-term (if Luai departs) that his replacement is from within.
Maybe the club reassess later.

Either from within or low budget signing such Laurie/Schneider.
