I'm kind of on the fence. I love the bloke and it's nothing to do with all the supposed contract saga, I worry a bit that we will end up too top heavy.

I am leaning toward sticking with the 2 years on offer and then succession planning in the name of evolution etc.

On the other hand what we potentially lose in the group dynamic off field is a concern.

The 2 years may have pissed him off a little.

The rest of the core players like Nathan and Dyl are locked up long term IIRC.

The length offered to Jarome obviously suggests that succession is being considered for his role in the team.

I'm of the Bill Walsh motto of only contracting players for their best years not all their years but players generally aren't fans of the approach.

Souths and Brisbane discovered that they could exploit our right edge defensive system between the thirty metre lines.

Cleary is a better tackler than Luai but doesn't have the same ability to skip from attacker to attacker as they move the ball.

If Luai decides to leave at seasons end 2024, I would now like the Panthers to throw the same offer at Ezra Mam, but maybe a longer term than 2 years. What a duo that would make Cleary and Mam. Mam reported to be only on 250K this season. Throw 800 to 850K at him. Now that's got future years covered. We have seen what he can do.
