yeah but he would be a logical choice to play in the halves when Thurston is on rep duty. At the very least cowboys fans should let him well and truely know how they feel about him.

I'm really confused as to this situation. The Cowboys knew what had happened, signed him, and now he has been suspended? What was the point?

I have never rated him,& since he was charged i wouldnt piss on the wife beating prick if he was on fire.
Ray is a far better player & is improving all the time ..

Just a daft decision to sign the bloke. Twice this issue with his girlfriend/wife has happened and I believe both were after The Tigers got knocked out of the finals. In fact I think Mad Monday was the catalyst in 2010 for the exact same problem. That is Groundhog Day gone postal. I'd like to see him in the same room as Sammy Backo. There would be pieces of Lui everywhere.

This. Not only is Ray Ray a better player, he also doesn't beat up on pregnant women.

Lui is nothing special on the field and an absolute degenerate off the field.

Hi guys. Just thought Id share an email that I sent to the club and its response regarding the Cowboys keeping Lui on the books

Me said:
Hello

I am concerned about the message that the Cowboys are sending by keeping Robert Lui at the club. He has pleaded guilty to assaulting his pregnant girlfriend. Surely this not the kind of thing the Cowboys, nor the NRL as a whole, should be seen as condoning especially when such events as the Women in League weeks were set up to specifically attract women to the game.

This does not sit well with me nor any of the RL fans I have spoken to. I am concerned at how this reflects on our great game.

Thank you for your feedback.

Robert was contracted to the club on a ‘no second chances’ policy and has followed a rehabilitation program since joining, responding very positively. The coaching staff have been very pleased with his commitment to training and his performance on the field, and he has acknowledged his mistakes and is demonstrating his dedication to turning his life around at the age of 21.

We are committed to assisting Robert in his rehabilitation and to giving him the supportive club environment we believe he needs.

We respect your position on this matter and hope that you understand our decision to continue to support this young player.

Kind regards

Here's a moral conundrum: Would you 'piss' on him if he was on fire, WHILST he was beating his wife?

I've spent a bit of time up there, so without trying to appear a troll, you could only get away with it in FNQ. Any of the cap city teams would be under heaps more media pressure carrying him on the books.

They were probably smart to sign him before he was convicted, it would be tougher to do it now.

I do have trouble with the idea of 'supporting' Rob Lui, through his tough time. What a load of shit.

He should wear it and spend a year back in the bush before any NRL club considers picking him up, and if that ends his career well tough shit.

I think this is where people are looking at it from the wrong perspective.

The incident should be seperate from his rugby league career. This is not about him being punished by the NRL and being banished from the game - will that fix the problem and make him a better person? Probably not. Thus the Cowboys have made a decision to assist in his rehabilitation - they are making a concerted effort to fix his terrible ways. I feel they are doing the women of league initiative justice, but providing education and putting Lui on the right track.

Without trying to racially vilify - it is very likely that Lui was brought up in a culture where disrespecting women was prevalant. This doesn't make what he did ok - but it does mean that he needs to be helped - otherwise it may never end.

I am not making excuses for him and downplaying his dog act - I just think this is the angle that the Cowboys are taking.

I think most decent NRL fans know that Cowboys supporters would want him sacked. It is a shame the club feel their views are not worthy of consideration. Joker's email and the response were a good example of this. Obviously Henry sees himself as a player rehabilitator. He has mended the bridges between himself and JT so I guess he can play it as he sees it. He is taking a massive risk as are the club IMO. It is a wonder sponsors have not jumped ship. Toyota are very family orientated. Families are the main spine of their advertising when they push the Klugers and Camrys.

Lui's not a big name, nor (to my knowledge) has it been a high profile case. The fortunate lack of publicity have obviously been a mitigating factor in many aspects - I'm not saying that's right, and I was amongst those who didn't want him signed for several reasons.
