Luke MacDougall may be on the way out of Newcastle Knights

Luke MacDougall's future at the Newcastle Knights is beginning to be the source of some quiet debate within the corridors of power at the club.

MacDougall was signed mid-season in 2007 from St George Illawarra by Knights coach Brian Smith on a contract believed to be in excess of $200,000 a season.

But since his signing, he has played just two NRL games with the club, both just after he arrived in Newcastle.

The speedster has been plagued by injury, which can happen to any player, and has even spent time in the US at his own expense during the last off-season in a bid to overcome a persistent triceps problem.

Word is he may be only a couple of weeks away from making his long-awaited return after yet another setback.

Just as well, too, because there is growing speculation there are those whose patience has already run out and believe the money would be better spend elsewhere.

I can't believe he was ever any good after watching him in the lower grades.

How much money for nothing have the Knights given to the Doogs family over the years?
Millions.

The mail I have on this situation is there is a faction of people at the Knights who actually feel that he is taking his money without really having a go to get himself right physically.

I know he went over to the USA to get rehab on it etc, but there's some doubts about whether or not he is really having a red hot go to get back onto the field.

That wouldn't be like a MacDougal to use injury as an easy pay cheque now would it? ;-)

Doogs has taught his brother how to master the art of deception.

So be it, let him go.

Shame though, I always wanted him at the club while he was at the Rabbits.

His form when he was at the rabbits was awesome in a struggling team and I actually thought if he was playing in a good team he'd be close to rep football. 36 tries in 60 matches, the majority of those matches were for souths who were pretty ordinary back then, unfortunately for us he never got on the field. If he's on 200k i'd spend 50k upgrading Uate's contract and offer Tim Mannah 120k

200k? 200K????@!@!@???

Jeez thats a Hagan sized mistake!

Get rid of him quick smart. Just give it all to Uate!

You guys would be surprised how often Adam has put his hand up as fit and not been selected.

Say what you want about Luke, but Adam has never feigned an injury to not play.

Jeezus mate, that is a harsh accusation to make. Unless you have proof of this its pretty stupid to make such a call.

All I am saying is, there is a faction in the Knights who feel Luke MacDougal is taking a pay cheque ( a very large one ) , without really having a red hot go to get back onto the field.

I can't speak on behalf of the coaching staff, or trainers etc, but the people paying the bills currently feel that Mad Pup may have been able to play through some of the ' injuries ' he has had.

Simple as that.

You don't have to believe it, but its 100% spot on.

I wasnt doubting what you stated about Luke mate. However you implied that Maddog has been possuming his injuries when you sarcstically said "it wouldnt be like a McDougall to fake an injury to get an easy paycheck" which I think is an unfair barb to throw in Adams direction.

I couldnt give a rats about Luke, as far as Im concerned he is a waste of perfectly good cap space.

Adam did take a lot longer to come back from a knee reconstruction in 03 then he should have. He spent that time doing a uni degree and it wasn't until the knights told him that he had to play, or he would be forced to leave that he ended up playing that very same weekend.
