Luke MacDougall may be on the way out of Newcastle Knights
Luke MacDougall's future at the Newcastle Knights is beginning to be the source of some quiet debate within the corridors of power at the club.
MacDougall was signed mid-season in 2007 from St George Illawarra by Knights coach Brian Smith on a contract believed to be in excess of $200,000 a season.
But since his signing, he has played just two NRL games with the club, both just after he arrived in Newcastle.
The speedster has been plagued by injury, which can happen to any player, and has even spent time in the US at his own expense during the last off-season in a bid to overcome a persistent triceps problem.
Word is he may be only a couple of weeks away from making his long-awaited return after yet another setback.
Just as well, too, because there is growing speculation there are those whose patience has already run out and believe the money would be better spend elsewhere.
