Matterson’s fate was sealed when he dogged his teammates sitting on the bench for a month, Brad the imbecile turned a blind eye, and returned to business as usual, any other coach on the planet would have given him an ultimatum, I’m glad his paying his pennants now, though the irony is he should be playing, though past selfish actions have scuppered his career, hence still letting his team down , from a fans point of view I’d like him to play because it helps his team, though morally he deserved what his copping and more!!
There's something about Matto...

One game of Origin from the bench, and then dropped forever
Seeking a release after one year of his Wests Tigers contract because "something happened"
Refusing to pay a $4K fine and leaving his club and teammates in the lurch for three weeks
And whatever happened this year after his only NRL game in our Canberra flogging

What was Kautoga like in lower grades? Was there something about him that indicated significant upside?
I’m just not seeing much from him atm that makes me think he’s a back rower that is going to be high impact or reliable worker.
From the little I have seen he was a hard running impact player. Haven't seen much of that yet.
Latu looks like a beast. Plenty of aggression and hard running.

Clearly a very polarising character

i reckon he has quite a bit of ball skills. However, he can be very risky as it is not controlled.

I am sure JR put a halt to his ball playing as he didnt really pass last game

Kautoga got good physical traits for a 2nd rower but he does some boneheaded stuff. walking back through the ruck and kicking the ball vs the tigers was inexcusable

Yeah it was dumb. That said it was only 1-2 tackles prior to that, he lead the kick chase and dragged their fullback back.
He’s been given plenty of opportunity to prove himself so I guess JR must see something.

He's not high impact but he seems to be a pretty reliable defender, which is what Ryles apparently wants from his edge forwards. That's certainly Guymer's strength, and he is making his first ever NRL start out wide this week.

I can see us going on a run now with Moses back (and then shitting the bed again during the Origin period). The Sharks might not want to lose to us, but they will.

What so bad about origin for us??

We play a depleted Manly before Origin 1 (no Tomt, no DCE, no Olakau'atu)

We have the bye before origins 2 and 3

Post origin games
All our games are on Sunday (5 day break) , twice vs Ruff who will have more in Origin, plus both games at Commbank. Also Lomax and Moses up to origin would have missed 6 games each, so fresher than others

I have this feeling that this season will be one where we will get up for one game every 5-6 games or so. Having two of those in a row is unlikely. I remain hopeful though.

Like us to get at least 8 wins this year as a minimum. Another 6 to go from 16

Hopefully get one or two quality recruits for next year to build on that

Next few weeks we have winnable games

Sharks - magic rd
Dolphins - Commbank
Knights - away

I think he is another blaize so to speak, a toiler at best, who was overhyped, Matterson over guymer any day of the week
Matto is a middle these days. Or do you think he can still play on the edge ? Has he slowed up much laterally ?

I think we have an edge drought right now. Lane is out, Kelma is out. Even Dan Keir is injured. Gideon is a rookie and there is nobody in reggies bashing down the door.

Will Latu is back this week for Cup, but he is super green.

Latu…nothing to lose, Riley is a good example

I agree Matto is a middle but he does have years of experience reading the defense from the edge. Something Kelma is still learning to do.
