NRL should of left as double or triple headers. Eg. Broncos v Dragons, Cowboys v Storm and Titans v Rabbits. This would have attracted good crowds and NSW/ACT would still have NRL games on.

Country towns is a great idea.
8 games played in the bush at various little country grounds, gives people that live in rural areas doing it tough with drought etc the chance to watch some NRL footy live.
Give something back to the people and stop making every little decision based purely on $$$.
I actually think All NRL teams should take1 game away to big country towns.

If you’re going to have the magic round, Brisbane is the only viable option imo.

It has a perfect stadium, a large enough population that follows rugby league, plenty of nsw expats, and a history of locals choosing a team in the old nswrl to support.

Happy for clubs to also continue taking games to the bush, as we do.

Does anyone know how the money is split up compared to normal Homs & away games takings?

I can’t find it, but I saw an article yesterday that said they were tracking for every club to get about $250k. That suggests to me that the NRL has taken the financial responsibility and is distributing a percentage of the profit to each club.

Any idea what our normal average income is for a home or an away game?

crowds have been ok.

17k for the Thursday night game
35k at kick of between pen and Tigers which swelled to 41k between Manly and Brisbane.

I think this is probably why they couldn't take it to the bush, crowd levels wouldn't match this and even if they did how is accommodation for not only the layers but the supporters as well. Plus the added "street" activities that have been provided makes for the spectacle.

This is why, only Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne would be able to accommodate everything that Magic Round is supposed to do. Even Perth would be too far for most spectators to travel and the cost involved.

Not really. I have a vague memory that we were taking games to ANZ because we were guaranteed $100k profit, but that was an old deal and I don’t even know if my memory is correct. Afraid you’ll need someone better informed than me to answer that one mate.

I think it would work at ANZ and during Easter. Go all out and have all the clubs with marketing, membership drives etc. Make it a proper showcase of the game. Seeing a 1/2 full stadium at the so called home of rugby league is very disappointing.

Having said that, I would love to hear about the experience from people that are there and around Brisbane.
