If Chris Walker was on 150K, then its reasonable to assume Reni is on 200K. Its not enough, as simple as that. Yes 7.5K is a bit to you and me but to Reni its not. If it was a percentage of his contract I would have no problem. Say 15% of his contact. Thats $30,000. Fair. I'm having a go at the club becuase they were very poor in dealing with it- 2 weeks to resolve this issue is just ridiculous! It does not take that long! Heck Collingwood took 3 days!

Maybe you should let that Collingwood example go because:
a) Collingwood is sponsored by the TAC (the RTA Victorian equivalent)
b) The AFL players association were severly critical of that fine given it was outside the scope of the code of conduct http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200604/s1626456.htm

Regardless a $7500 fine with 7500 suspended is a severe whack for someone I suspect is earning around 150K. He will still face the courts and will likely have a hard sell convincing the club he deserves a significant pay rise. Reni has copped it hard and fair and he's dealing with it in an appropriate manner. If people want to continue to attack the Dogs without cause then my message is start your own website with your rediculous hate mantra. We don't need it on LU.

You have no idea what 7.5k means to Reni. You don't know what his financial commitments are. You don't know if he's paying off a house or investment properties. You have no idea.

Collingwood had to act because they are sponsored by the anti-drink driving mob. It was a move designed to save the sponsorship rather than punish the player.

The bulldogs immediate disciplinary action was to drop him from first grade. Then they had a disciplinary hearing to decide on thorough, thought out disciplinary action to avoid the situation they had with Corey Hughes. By taking a thorough approach, Reni couldn't turn around and protest on the basis that it was a knee jerk reaction like Corey Hughes did. And by taking a thorough approach, they were also able to include a community service and alcohol awareness program into the disciplinary action. What we're left with it a comprehensive response rather than a knee-jerk one.

Reni now has to face the courts, where he will be punished with further fines.

So lockyno1, looks like you were told to put up or shut up, and your decision is quite obvious.

Moron.

Locky you are a moron. Your raising points just to stir and you do not offer anything of value. How the hell would you know what his salary is.

They have. $7,500 is a used car, a holiday, a couple of months worth of nights out, that money is a lot of things put in perspective. And given his history, he could do something again, in which case, BAM, there's a total of 15k gone from his pay. People need to take into account that its up to the law to punish him, the Bulldogs are only in a position to discipline him.

What history??? He was cleared of the assault charge and had no case to answer at Coffs.. If he does something again he deserves whatever punishment handed out and more.. The Roosters sacked Walker the second time he breached the clubs disciplinary code. Would the Dog's do the same?

I think his contract negotiations are still on hold, so they might be considering it yet.

But I'd say that they probably would if he was a turnstyle who was burning valuable salary cap money like Chris Walker was.

Chris Walker was sacked 4 weeks prior to the expiry of his contract so it wasn't a salary cap issue.
