Manly under 20's player Shane Gray tests positive to banned Clenbuterol

By staff writers
June 19, 2009

The NRL has imposed an immediate provisional suspension on Manly under 20's player Shane Gray after he returned a positive drug test result to Clenbuterol.

Clenbuterol - which Cronulla backrower Reni Maitua also tested positive to in May - is an anabolic agent used to improve muscle mass and reduce body fat.

Gray, who returned a positive 'A' sample, has the option under the World Anti-Doping Authority Code to have a 'B' sample taken.

Should the 'B' sample test not confirm the result, the matter would not be pursued.

But if Gray's positive test is confirmed, he faces a two-year penalty, as accepted by the Sharks' Maitua earlier this week.

You can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take the Newcastle out of the boy.

On a totally unrelated note, how amazing was it that Josh Perry was able to trim down so quickly when he went to Manly, after years of trying to lose weight at the Knights.

Nearly as amazing as Ben Kennedy being a 10 game a year player at Newcastle and a full season player at Manly.

When you consider how poor the Newcastle strength, conditioning and physio has been for the last couple of years, Its no coincidence the Knights had players dropping like flies a few years back.

BTW how did Danny Wicks lose his weight so fast this year? ;-)

I wouldn't have said a thing if your fans hadn't taken cheap shots at the knights for no apparent reason - now you guys are drugs cheats - suck sh*t.
