Manly v Melbourne GF 2017

I dislike Melbourne more than any other club, but they have been a dominant team for a fair while now, hence the word mighty.

No.

I disagree with stripping the titles because they cheated and you can't take back the wins or give the title to the other team.

But lets not forget the record books show they cheated.

Also most new clubs that owe everything to Queensland get off to a hot start.

My raiders in the 80's and 90's. The broncos in the 90's and now the storm.

The 2010's years have seen a super even comp with like lots of different teams in the Grand final, Storm, Cronulla, Cowboys, Brisbane, Souths, Dogs, Roosters and Manly, Dragons, Warriors with only 4 teams being in more than one in seven years.

Melbourne dynasty is a myth, we have the sharks as f**king premiers, anything can happen.

But yeah Manly are a mighty club. Not that I care for them.

It's June.

Manly were good on Sunday but Cronulla were flat (and shit). 5 players backing up from origin will do that to you.

Let's see how they go in August when the good sides are ramping up to the finals. They have Storm/Roosters and Penrith in their run home post origin. We will find out then if they are premiership contenders.

The Storm are the benchmark ATM and nothing I have seen from any other team leads me to believe they will be beaten in October.
They've only lost three games this year. To the Sharks when at full strength and depleted v the Titans and chooks.

I still maintain that the Sharks are the only team that has the attitude to beat them in a big game, but they are down on last year so the Storm deserve favouritism.

I think it's pretty amazing that since 2006 there has only been 1 Grand Final (2014) that hasn't featured Manly, Melbourne, Brisbane, or Roosters.

Even more amazing is if you consider the whole NRL era from 1998 until now, there are only 2 additional GFs that don't include one of those 4 clubs, 2001 and 2005.

Removing Brisbane from the equatiin only adds 2 more GFs to the list that doesn't include one of the other three clubs, 1998 and 2015.

Excluding manly adds 2011 to the list of GFs not involving the other 2 so of the 19 GFs since 1998 there have been 13 GFs involving either the storm or roosters and 6 that haven't. They have somehow avoided each other though.

Storm have been a way ahead of the pack. Manly look good on the back of DCE playing his best footy in a long while, well supported by those around him. But I dont think they've proven themselves just yet.

I still feel there is holes in the chooks side as well.

Melbourne play at their potential for most of the regular season, few other teams do. Come finals time, chooks or cronulla or maybe even the Warriors (if they sneak into the finals) will have a blinder and knock Melbourne out. Can't wait.

A bit premature all round. Melbourne and Manly look good but injuries to the wrong player(s) can ruin all that.

Rumour Smith is carrying a sternum injury and he has had such an incredible run over the years he might be due. The young Smith could cover capably for a bit but finals footy is a different game.

Similarly if Manly lose DCE, or Turbo 1 or 2, that would put a hige dent in their ability to win big games.

Both teams look good now agreed, but plenty of footy left yet.

Manly v Roosters would be most exciting grand final imo.

Even though I hate both teams

None of the top 4 would really give me someone to cheer for on GF day. The underdog would be Manly god forbid! I guess it would be them (washes mouth out with soap).

Not saying it would, but it would be some attractive football.

Manly to me are the most exciting team to watch this year, closely followed by the goosey goosters.

Any combo of Melbourne/Brisbane/sharks etc would just be a boring borefest
