He will make a lot more money contracted to the media.....get more time to spend with his family, and not get bashed and bruised every week. Why not retire, if he feels the time is right? I can assure you it is something he has put a lot of thought into.

I think that it had happen and that it is appropriate
He would have had goals that he wanted to achieve an they would have driven him
He has achieved them in a shorter timeframe than he had imagined and helped bring the club the premiership that we so bitterly craved
In 2012 there was no place for him to go but downhill, the wear and tear on his body will be exponential as he ages and motivation that much harder to garner
New players like Stanley will need to be accommodated as will a growing generation of players that Albert, Pricey and Doust will have identified. Undoubtedly re-signing the Stanley brother, Moltzen, et al, prior to this announcement showed great acumen
I'm betting that there will be a strong resolve among outgoing players to make 2011 another premiership and go out in a blaze of glory.
We have enough senior players at the club to help Pricey in 2012
The funds that will be released will he very helpful
In all honesty how many of us said when we joined GREAT!! but Four years??
Thanks Gaz
Live long and prosper

its frees up A LOT of salary cap dollars in the coming seasons due to his deal being "back-ended".
i suspect some big name signing to cover this - not another Tim Moltzen..
i suspect his ankle injury is long term - and has affected his pace...

Why are you so quick to write Tim Moltzen off already? He hasn't even played in the red V yet. Is it only because of what you have seen of him at Tigers since he has been back from the knee reconstruction?

What were you saying when Dragon's signed that lazy fat tub of lard, Weyman, from the Raiders?

Give the guy a chance before you crucify him. And I can bet you we aren't paying big dollars for him.

No, not in the near future anyway, have Kyle / Chase Stanley to cover Gasnier - buying strategy will depend on future of players like Cooper, Young & Hornby. They have Young's replacement in King, ( hooker & utility back-rower ) but will be planning for a new halfback & another centre in the next few years.

Solid player still, but probably the novelty of coming back has passed, he has a title, and is ready for next phase of his life. Also, he doesn't really have the speed anymore to get back to his former glory (I dont mean that in a critical way, but im sure he is honest with himself).

Also his contract was back-ended pretty hard, so im a bit confused what that means for our Salary Cap? I guess since he is volunteering to retire, its not our problem, but we did end up getting a good deal in 2010/2011 in the end.

I'd say the timing of the announcement was well-planned
The last game for Gaz at Kogarah
If rivalry round wasn't enough, this should ensure a great crowd on Monday evening

Why the hell are you guys so down hearted ?? He's past his best and is giving us the best chance to retain our younger talent and or scout the market for someone else. IN my opinion we should spend it on who we have as in stanley and his brother and maybe let them be career players in the red v. RETAIN RETAIN RETAIN. He is saving us an absolute fortune and really opens up the wallet for post hornby and cooper. I know I bag him out and you guys hate me for it but you have to move on. Things are on the up even with this and Wayne going. It's going to be like 09 again. A new beginning.

Gaz may be a tad past his best but he is really heavily marked. Every time he gets the ball the opposition is sweating on him and that creates opportunities for thos around him. Nighty is scoring a lot of tries. Boyd has finally worked out how to chime in the right side as well as the left. No surprise that Cooper was having such a great year prior to his injury. Much less pressure on him.

We will miss Gaz. He adds a lot to the team. I will definitely be hoping for 1 big name signing now. Lost a few, gained a few but surely we can afford one more player.

You may need to look up Einstein's definition of insanity DD

Or perhaps as Paul McCartney once wrote
"Well on the way, head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud.
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice.
But the fool on the hill sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head see the world spinning round.
And nobody seems to like him"

You're entitled to your opinion but your derisive comments are considered offensive by many, to a respected player, to many here, appear illogical and unreasonable.

I didn't get to see the press conference today; just a few quick questions:

1. Dis gasnier give a reason for retiring ? & what was it ?
2. In your oppinion is he being forced out ? or he is going out on his merits?
3. Any ideas who his replacement will be? stanley from melbourne maybe ? or is there any young guns in your lower grade who are ready to replace him?

If there is a thread for this can you please merge it.

Thanks.

1. he did. he has chronic inflamation of the anus.
2. he is being forced out. the dragons don't accept people at the club who have inflamed colons.
3. the good oil is that we are signing greg inglis as of next year as he doesn't want to play under maguire.

hope those answer your questions.

XOXO
