Mark geyer: Drop Tigers Bring back Wests Magpies

They have said as much. The new structure with the 3 independents assures as much. But if the NRL via these 3 independents tries to put too much pressure on Wests to keep funding the team in its current Balmain dominated structure then watch Wests bail out and the NRL relocate the Wests Tigers elsewhere.

Perhaps that is the NRL's agenda. Time will tell.

Wests will just hang on until Balmain runs insolvent.

Then the license reverts to the NRL not Wests Magpies!?

So if this were to happen and the NRL had control of the club what does everyone think would happen then? I think the NRL wants us in the comp (for reasons such as byes and we are quite popular) but I suspect they would, perhaps if they could, relocate us. Where to (if this were to happen) is the big question.

I am probably wrong, I'll admit I don't have all the details on this whole mess but I just feel if the whole thing implodes what does the NRL have in mind for us as a team (Wests Tigers I mean).

Anyone have any thoughts on what could happen....I'm not a 'conspiracy theorist' (Tiger05:2014) but I'm interested in what could happen if it all went pear shaped.

I don't think we'd be relocated. We'd either be propped up or axed.

Relocation is an exercise that won't work.

Bingo. A relocated team would struggle to gain any traction in a new market except for PNG (not going to happen any time soon) or maybe a second NZ team. Anywhere else you are probably better off starting a new team from scratch.

In saying that the West Tigers are far to valuable to be relocated out of Sydney. If the NRL got the license back I reckon they would look for a private investor to take over.

Was pretty successful for the AFL clubs that relocated, but any club relocated needs salary cap exemptions and heavy financial support in the early years. Early success is the key. You're really relocating a brand .

This club has sacrificed 2 foundation clubs to make Weststigers , and both sides after all these years are still coming to terms with the merger... If anyone thinks they can divide it yet again into another state/faction they are dreaming.

When I raised the possibility of relocation I was also thinking of the AFL. Teams like Fitzroy/Brisbane and South Melbourne/Swans were basically bust and the AFL supported them over other clubs. Both clubs were successful in winning comps...albiet the Swans were a bit slower.

I was more thinking that if the NRL 'owned' us for want of a word; could they, or would they push to do something different to what has been going on recently and perhaps in a different location.

What has been happening hasn't been overly successful to date (last 3 years), our crowd numbers while good are not great (across 3 grounds). I am more worried they could force us to move if they had financial control.

Is that possible? As I say I am not totally up on what is going on and probably just overly worried about my team. Oh, for a rich benefactor!!!

We are a solid brand but if we lose control financially can they force a move on us?

Without meaning to derail the thread. The AFL examples can only be deemed successes if you ignore probably more than $100 million spent in each market by the AFL and the complete corruption of the integrity of their comp (which continues to this day) to ensure they are regularly winning comps, or their ridiculous flags.

Neither of which will happen if the NRL relocate a team which I don't think will happen anyway.

The Western Suburbs & The Balmain clubs are only the parents of the West Tigers & always will be. The WT's will continue in the area, even if one of the parents go broke, this is never in doubt.

But they need to stop the cronyism that the WT's is being managed by. The NRL have identified this. But when one partner is short of finances it will always happen I guess.

I believe Balmain will rise out of the crap they have got themselves in & become the financial partner that they should be. How the f**k they gave up their leagues club before approval to redevelop was granted is still a mystery.

Long live the West Tigers.

I think relocation will be definitely on the cards & is looking more that way, each day the in-fighting goes on.

The die-hard Western Suburbs fans are licking their chops; like a pack of vultures at the current situation of the club in its demise & doing their best to destabilise the club. As they relish the day if/when they gain control of the merger, the mighty Magpie will fly again & the Tiger will be forced into extinction.

Unfortunately Western Suburbs are ignoring the fact that Dave Smith has categorically stated that if the merger goes down, the NRL Licence will not be handed back to Western Suburbs. As everyone other than them, remembers why Wests were forced into a merger 15 years ago; they simply could not survive on their own. Nothing has changed, certainly not the crowds at Campbelltown.

The argument that the Campbelltown district is too important to the NRL as a junior nursery, is negligible. They will get amalgamated into Parramatta/Penrith/Canterbury. Watch it happen.

For me, I’m quite sick of the sabotage attempt by Western Suburbs & the mismanagement by the fools running the place; all because the little Magpie is too small on the sleave…..yawn!

The sad thing is these cronies cannot see that they are bringing about their own demise. As they say – “it’s better to have half of something, than all of nothing”.
