Mars Volta the Led Zeppelin of this generation?

In my opinion Mars Volta are one of, if not the best band going around currently. Yes they can be very self indulgent but they are great musos. I have seen them 3 times now and every time i see them live it seems they have become better musos since the last time I saw them.

I think they are right up there with Led Zeppelin does anyone else agree?

I like the Mars Volta, but they're just not in the same classification as Zeppelin. You might say they are the Yes of this generation.. maybe? They just dont have the main stream popularity that Zeppelin had.

Relationship of Command was brilliant and who knows what would have happened if they had not imploded but some of their early albums were sh*t.

Though not a big fan, I know of At The Drive-In. They had some great stuff.

But Mars Volta? Who? And you want to compare them to Led Zeppelin

That's almost as stupid as that bloke from the radio that labelled the poonce lead singer from Muse the next John Lennon. I'm not a huge Lennon fan, but Lennon on a toilet with explosive diarrhoea being recorded would have greater impact and be more artistic than anything the Matt Bellamy git has ever Done and will ever do.

the Mars Volta are an exceptional band, seen them a few times, as well as Sparta and At the Drive In.

I'm a huge At the Drive In fan but their music is very different from MV.

Instrumentally MV are very good, not your average musicians but I would suggest given the test of time they wont rate any near Zepplin.

MV have been around for years and by now Zepplin would have produced at least their first two albums which will probably outsell anything MV ever did or will do.

But, you are the first person I have heard say that their drummer is elementary :lol:

Perhaps he was off at friday's BDO, but it just sounded garbage to me.

Elementary is probably the wrong word, but when the majority of a drum solo is simply just the bloke trying to see how quickly he can hit everything in random order, I don't find it very impressive. I find that type of drumming (just beating the kit senseless) to be pretty basic stuff.
