Wilco, at the Metro on the YHF tour. Glen Kotch was a revelation.

I'd seen them in the UK on the Summerteeth tour prior to Kotch joining the band....when Ken Coomer was the drummer.

When I saw them for the first time with Kotch, could not believe how much better he was than Coomer, especially on songs like Misunderstood. Brilliant drummer. Thrashes and bashes the kit when needed, but can also be soft and quiet happy to be heard just in the background.

apparently the Mars Volta drummer was crook and didn't play in Sydney, the one that played was a stand in

Apples and oranges.

Anyone who doesn't like the Mars Volta but hasn't heard their first two albums should give them a shot. Everything they've released since has been crap IMO, but those first two albums are great.

Personally, I don't like them. I find them bland and dull. My opinion, of course.

I do recognize that they have ability. But to compar them to Led Zeppelin is, in my opinion, just grasping at straws.

They range from great to okay, depending on what album you are listening to.

The first two albums are outstanding, but the rest are hit and miss. Amputechture has some fine songs like Viscera Eyes and Vermicide, however the others are annoying and can be a chore to listen.

Also I think there are bands that do the whole ambient / star gaze / random noises stuff a lot better than TMV.
