Danny Weidler reported in Nine News tonight that Sheens was seriously thinking of Marshall o fullback. Not the worst suggestion- that could allow Lui at 5/8 amd Moltzen into the half and WT get to keep all 3 rather than potentionally loose one or tow of them next year.

Someone mentioned this option (MU, I think) a little while ago, maybe someone is listening? But as long as they leave Farah out of the 7 jersey, anything is worth a try?

So it would look something like this:
1 - Marshal
2 - Utai
3 - Ayshford
4 - Brown
5 - Tuqiri
6 - Lui / Moltzen
7 - Moltzen / Lui
8 - Gibbs
9 - Farah
10 - Galloway
11 - Ellis
12 - Dwyer
13 - Heighington
14 - Fifita
15 - Woods
16 - Fulton
17 - Ryan

Different, but interesting.

Marshal popping up anywhere, would be even harder to read?

Both Moltzen & Lui are claims for the 6 spot aren't they?

Bar Lawrence & providing Ellis & Tuqiri are back this week, we are at full strength. I haven't included Payten, cause I don't think he should come back.

All that just said, Fox Sports is running an article on Moltzen, where he is saying he wants to be the WT full back?

http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/...of-remaining-no1/story-fn2mcuj6-1226065885183

Part of the article is as follows:

However the 22-year-old sees himself as a No.1 and, despite having looked at what's on offer from other clubs, he's in no hurry to leave.
"I prefer fullback, I worked really hard in the pre-season of 08-09 and had a full year at it in '09 and came back to the halves just to fill in," Moltzen said.
"It worked out that I went all right there so I stayed there but I think eventually fullback's where I want to end up.
"I'm definitely committed to the Tigers and I love the Tigers and all the boys at the club so I'm not looking to go anywhere.

It is good to read these comments from him. He will be a very good player for the Tigers. Recovery from a knee reconstruction takes time. Besides Marshall and Ayshford, he is the only other player with pace in the current backline.

Ayshford is very slow, far too slow to be in the backline.

Is he playing with injury? If so, it may be impacting on his speed as I have seen him move quite quickly.

Thought that Meaney or Mullaney would be next in line?

A few comments on a few threads lately regarding the defence of both Lui and Moltzen - is it a good thing moving Moltzen into 5/8 and have a forward running at him there? At least Marshall has improved in that regards.

What about this team going forward??????

1 - Meaney
2 - Any young guy from the U20's or Balmain/Ryde with speed to burn.
3 - Ayshford
4 - Dwyer can protect Lui when he moves out wide :)
5 - Tuqiri
6 - Marshall
7 - Lui
8 - Woods
9 - Farah
10 - Galloway
11 - Ellis
12 - Gibbs
13 - Heighington
14 - Fifita
15 - Murdoch Masila
16 - Shirnack
17 - Moltzen
18 - Fulton

Marshall at fullback would suck because we'd lose any creativity he offers. Old Time Tiger, I'm glad that someone else sees the potential of Dwyer in the centres. Imagine the impact if he was in the centres with Lawrence!!

I said a few times I like the look of

1. Marshall

6. Lui (his best position)/ Moltzen (his best position)/ Curtis Sironen (sheens sees him as a long term five eigth)
7. Miller (this kid is an out and out halfback)/ Lui/ Moltzen

And here is Paramatta wanting to move their most creative player to 6 so he can get more involved and we want to do the opposite.

Not to mention the high speed impact in defence and coming down on his shoulders from bombs. Is he up to that?

two posts from macnaz there which sum up the same thoughts I had.

I said Marshall should have played at fullback early in his career, but not now. You can teach a fullback how to be a five-eighth, its a lot harder going the other way around.

Fullbacks rely on instinct more than any other player. That can't be taught.

Ideally, Meaney should be the fullback, without doubt, until Mullaney becomes NRL standard.

Moltzen, well if he wants the fullback job, he's gotta learn how to defend, he's got to attack the ball and contest for it.

Personally I think Brown is the best fullback at this club, even with a fully fit McKinnon. Good size, speed and leap and wouldn't need much work to be taught a few basic second phase plays.

I would hate to see Marshall 'forced' to fullback to cover a perceived weakness we have in that position. There have been several good names linked to the position and I could comfortably live with Brown, Meaney or Mullaney back there.

As much as I have liked and been impressed with his performance this year I'd really stop naming McKinnon due to the risk he poses. He is gone at the end of the year. Doing this also gives his replacement as much game time as possible in the position. At the end of the day this decision needs to be long term so pick one and stick with them. Dare I say it, even if it is Moltzen, stop the musical chairs!!!

Back to Marshall at fullback, I am hoping Sheens is not looking to create another fullback knowing we have several players who can play 5/8 and can therefore 'replace' Marshall (sounds stupid even saying that I know).

Brett Hodgson often played a 5/8 role and was brilliant injecting himself into the backline and truth is, Benji would no doubt be good too so is that what Sheens maybe thinking?

You can't weaking one position to prop up another, the experiment of Farah to halfback went OK, but he is a hooker pure and simple. Any talk of moving Marshall is dangerous...he isn't the problem in the team, it is all the other indecision on who plays where. No wonder the blokes are off their game, they train in one position and play in another.

I just feel the players need to know where they fit in the team and they play in those positions on a regular basis. How else are they going to learn? Stop the confusion.

Just my thoughts.....

I think it's easier to make a fullback out of a winger than a half. Wingers know they need pace, they know they have to run in support to provide options, particularly second phase play. They also have to learn positioning in defence, such as when to drop back for kicks.

Moltzen simply does not seem to have the basics down. Coming into the line to create overlaps in attack, acting as a second five eighth, these things are bonuses compared to positioning yourself correctly to take bombs, scoop up grubbers, defuse other kicks and then running the ball back hard.

Nothing that I've seen from Moltzen in the past indicates he can do these things and we need a fullback who can do these things. If we're not going to use our juniors like Meaney, we should look at importing a player who can do these things, someone who is on the fringe or the outer at other clubs, some like Kevin Locke, Isaac Gordon or even Wes Naiqama who is playing out of his skin at the Knights.

At very least, Teflon did not resurrect the old chestnut of Marshall to halfback. I'll take that as progress. However, it does display the usual Sheens trademark of robbing Peter to pay Paul. Weakening 5/8 where a world class occupies the role is not overly thrilling.

I dont mind the thought bubble going out there as a possible solution but thats all. I wonder if that thought was the offer of a way to try to keep Lui and Moltzen at WT in the main NRL squad for 2012?
