mason banned

Another disciplinary cop-out based on fear of upsetting you sensitive Australians.

It is supposed to International Rugby League, not free-style boxing. "Desperate Dan Chin" Mason is a thug, pure and very very simple. His hit on Long may be legal on Australian street corners, but in the civilised world it would have resulted in a charge of GBH.

And now he has the temerity to criticise his let-off. Idiot.

For God's sake get over it you whingers. Even on the odd occassion when you win you find something to whinge about. Very little wrong with either incident. Obviously the judiciary panel isn't as easily swayed by Stevo's commentating as the masses of GB are.

The punch was a good one and I don't really know what Fielden was expecting to be honest. However the hit on Long was cynical and cowardly and he should've been banned for longer for that. Imagine if it was Morley on Lockyer and he was lying on the floor with a cut eye. In a way though I'm glad Mason is playing in the final, because IF we get there, he's gonna get it big time, hopefully legally.

i feel the punch didnt deserve a ban but the challenge on long di for sure.
Agree. I was surprised that he wasn't cited for the challenge on Long. Definitely high but no elbow as some are suggesting, more of a forearm but still worthy of suspension.

Absolutely not surprised that word leaked out tht Mason would not be cited for the Long incident so therefor the Poms cited him for this one. That should not be the case. They should be required to submit all their citings without knowing the outcome of others in advance. Again, just typical of the farcical administration of this tournament.

And $5000 + 1 match for the punch? Did they miss the all-in sparked by King and Vatuvei? Give it up you pack of jokers. They even admitted as much during last nights hearing when they said it's no defence that someone else got away with something similar. No defence? What about precedent? These blokes are the Amateur Hour of World Sport. This and the Fien saga are making Rugby League a laughing stock.

ridiculous really. taking it soft in the first few games, now they will take action - hypocrites

consistency? - what are the charges for the "third man in" - pommy captain got mason on the chin, didn't he???

it's a ridiculous decision - Mason has been banned for showing good technique and flooring Fielden...

If he'd have wildly thrown punches and done little or no damage - like Vatuvei, King, Morely, and Peacock - then presumably there would be no suspension. Peacock clearly punched too, why no ban for him???

what about morley hitting webb whilst web was on the ground? that didnt draw anything other than a penalty. we're talking about two big forwards who were squaring up, not one player hitting another player when they werent looking. guess 'the worlds best prop' just has a glass jaw

of course if morley hit lockyer i'd be livid, but if lockyer was squaring up to morely then he's got to take some responsibility.....and I have never seen lockyer even look like throwing a punch or getting into a fight

This is a joke.

Before the series there was talk of no real consequences for these sorts of things.

We've had spear tackles, other punch ups, etc. and the only person to have to face consequences is Willie Mason. Why was this any worse then Morley hitting Webb?

Morley picked on a back... Mason belted a forward.

This is just the whinging poms not being able to take looking like the softcocks they are. The Kiwis/Aussies took the high hits, took the punches etc. The poms target the player specifically until they get their way.

Here's hoping the Poms and Aussies play in the final. That way Mason can deck a few more poms.

I would love to see ur reaction had Fieldon dont that to Hindmarsh!

 It's test footy ffs!

If Hindmarsh was being a smart arse and pushing and shoving I think he'd deserve a punch. Why the hell does a punch deserve suspension these days? If anything I would have expected him to be suspended for his hit on Long.

The judiciary system for this tri nations is an absolut travesty...how one player gets suspended for punching someone (noone this season who initiated the punch up was suspended in the nrl), yet peacock gets off for 3rd man in is an absolute joke.

I remember people pissing and moaning when Tallis knocked out Ben Ross in a VERY similar accident.

What did Tallis get?

accident?

While I think the penalty is stupid, and inconsistent, there wasn't much that was accidental about what Mason did

What an absolute Lol. Aussies talking up how hard done by Mason was. Guys a thug, and was lucky the judicery 'conveniently' decided he didn't have a case to answer for his other antics, for which he would've been out for a damn sight more than one match. Haven't heard Stuart come out about 'cheap shots' again either. It's Aussie trying to make themselves look not biased, and it's not working.
One things for certain, Mason will be a marked man vs Kiwis or GB...lets see if he starts crying again like he did when Kidwell got him with that classic (And legal) hit.

Lets be honest, if Morley had hit Lockyer like that you would have been crying out for 5 matches!

This is true, but hey some Australians can have the "stevie wonder" disease

Test match footy is not anything goes. It was striking and Willie was righfully suspended.
