Mass Expansion possible with de- mergers

If the AFL and NRL both pulled their GC teams...

* The NRL would contract to 16 teams, add Perth, PNG (both confirmed) then Brisbane 3 & Christchurch, and we have a decent 20 team footprint for a while.

* The AFL would contract to 17 teams. Add Tasmania (maybe with a compromise on the new stadium), Canberra & a 3rd expansion team (3rd WA team?) and they'd be set for a while.
Not going to happen. 6th largest city in Australia and a huge RL nursery

The idiot also doesn't realise St George hasn't been a RL area for decades bar the octagenerians and boomers.

With the mass migration of Chinese into places like Hurstville, Kogarah etc the area lost its RL identity a long time ago.

Like Leichhardt with its Italian identity, most of the St George area is now Asian and more into soccer, the area is home to large swathes of Sydney FC's supporter base.
Well why can't the Chinese and Asian's and I assume now Africans get into Rugby League ? this is one of the negatives of mass migration......maybe the next generation for these area'swill be Kiwi's, Pacific Islander's, Saffa's and people from PNG.

The Gold Coast catchment is huge for rugby league. The area is riddled with rugby league competitions and rugby league people in and outside the zone. We do need a club there imho
Well why don't all the players and people involved in the various comps around the Gold Coast support the Titans plus when CBUS was built maybe I think the capacity was a bit generous and should of been 20,000 for starters a bit like the Central Coast stadium.

Anyone suggesting titans move is clueless

No one is moving anytime soon mate …don’t the clubs have some type of agreement to participate in the competition?

Like the OP, I was just giving my “verdict” on the Titans ….. they are clearly not working on the field and don’t do much more than make up the numbers… it’s a shame because no team in any sport deserves that little success over 20 years

Gobs this is the third thread you’ve made where I’ve been thinking of something then somehow you post that exact thing lol

Mergers will never work

Magpies should take over the club and rebrand playing most of their games at Campbelltown and some at commbank or / Accor

Tigers should do what the bears did and join easts tigers in Brisbane playing two games at leichardt oval

Illawarra should get their own side now owned by the Gordon family

Which leaves the dragons splitting six games at kogarah and the rest at Allianz or the move you suggest to Adelaide with 2 games in Sydney

De- merging the Wests Tigers primarily so Easts Tigers can get the Tigers name is real dumb … if you are under 35 all you have known is the Wests Tigers … the Magpies would be starting again from scratch with the same or bigger problems… who would the owners be ? Wests Campbelltown couldn’t afford 10 percent of the JV costs and pulled out … the current owners at Ashfield prefer the Status Quo.. not playing 45kms away

On the other side of the fence ., NSW fans aren’t following a QLD team… you may as well leave them up there full time

it’s a myth to think there are still two separate entities there after 25 years and you can move part here and part there …the Balmain Tigers died 10 years ago, and all that is left is a board of 80 yr old dinosaurs presiding over nothing … Im assuming Easts Tigers don’t want that

The AFL will be the biggest winners Im tipping.. like when the Bears got flicked

Different culture for a start.

They've been here since the 1990's and haven't got into it so they won't now.

In case of Africans they're more into soccer and basketball and body type wise probably more suited to Australian Rules.

Highly doubt we'll get mass migration from New Zealand & South Africa any time soon.

In the case of the latter bar the ones currently in WA, they're more likely to head to the UK.

I don't even bother anymore.
* 750,000 population
* 27,000 seat purpose built stadium
* Juniors producing NRL talent

Oh, they're not playing well? Bin it !! Lol

Titans will be a powerhouse.
Just stop buying Jarrod Hyanes and David Fafitta's F F S. !!!
Two of the best schoolboys schools in Australia

As I said … no team is moving …

They don’t do shit for the competition though ..:
So warriors should get kicked out too

lol.

Gold Coast is a key market

There’s a reason the afl panicked when gallop put the titans in and they rushed a side there and threw the kitchen sink at them

And it’s league heartland.

It’s got a bigger population than Newcastle Wollongong Canberra

They do do shit for the competition

That’s why putting a team in a big city like them is important

Gold Coast has transitioned from a small town full of retirees from nsw and qld to a genuine city with a young population

Those tired and dated cliches don’t apply
