Different culture for a start.

They've been here since the 1990's and haven't got into it so they won't now.

In case of Africans they're more into soccer and basketball and body type wise probably more suited to Australian Rules.

Highly doubt we'll get mass migration from New Zealand & South Africa any time soon.

In the case of the latter bar the ones currently in WA, they're more likely to head to the UK.
Thats shocking come over to a country and try and fit in and mix but they don't as sport like music can you unite us....unless your a Soccer pleb.

So warriors should get kicked out too

lol.

Gold Coast is a key market

There’s a reason the afl panicked when gallop put the titans in and they rushed a side there and threw the kitchen sink at them

And it’s league heartland.

It’s got a bigger population than Newcastle Wollongong Canberra
I still think they could of done with a 20,000 seater ground at the start.

Ground location isn’t the best and the roof doesn’t provide much sun cover

They’ve been crap for ages

A city that size they should be averaging 20k at least

They used to pay 3 million a year In rent which killed them now it’s one million

But they still charge like 100 bucks for seats on the sideline lol

Hang on … Gobby says this is the best location in town for the stadium
Robina is out in the sticks

And far away from light rail line

Obviously for Gold Coast somewhere near Cavill ave on the Gold Coast highway : Robina / pacific fair would’ve been the perfect location

Where the new convention centre is

So why was the Steelers brought in the first place ?
Probably because the Illawarra region produced alot of league players and the administrators wanted to expand and added the Raiders at the same time.

The problem however is the Steelers struggled as a stand alone club (bar a few seasons), were in debt and eventually had to sell their share and the JV has underperformed for over a decade (made semis only 2 years) with WIN being a 50% owner. Is it the Dragon's side or the WIN side that is dragging the JV down or a combination? Who knows. Would 100% WIN or Dragon's ownership make the club better? Again who knows. Wb1234 in the thread called for WIN to take over. So why isn't WIN now making sure the club is strong on the field? Are they being hindered by the Dragon's side?

I have lived in the St George district all my life and played junior footy in the 70s. But most of the junior clubs from those days either don't exist or don't field teams in every age group like they used to. Things in life change and in this case the demographics of the area have changed significantly and the St George area is no longer interested in rugby league like it once was.

In a country that struggles for rectangular venues, I'll take a 30 stadium any day
For a brand new stadium it is pretty crap

Would never want to go back

So much land available on the Gold Coast near the beach

From memory you have to park at a shopping centre 15 mins out and get a shuttle bus as there’s nowhere near the stadium

I would say somewhere in the mid 80s onwards it started to change slowly and more quickly in the 2000s. As most of the first generation of Asians in the area were not interested in rugby league as I assume it was a foreign sport to them, it has filtered down to subsequent generations (and please don't take this a being racist). You can probably say that for other cultures as well. Given the mass European migration since WW2, the number of Europeans who have played at NRL level I would say has been very low while for the NZ and South Pacific don't they make up nearly 50% of playing numbers these days. It's obviously a sport that they like and attracts them.

The second part of your question, I have no idea. Like alot of posters here only like rugby league and don't like any other sport, maybe some people are drawn to other sports whether it be soccer, afl, golf, tennis or whatever and don't like rugby league or sport in general. It's just part of life and is not wrong or right.

That’s your argument ( verdict) to blow up the Tigers and Dragons though ?
The opposite actually, those 2 teams effectively become 4! And it has nothing to do with on field success ( no teams viability has anything to do with on field success) , it's their fractured identity. The Tigers pretty much play all over Sydney with no clear home or identity and it is not working nor does it have a clear strategy going forward!
Dragons aren't as bad but it still isn't working. It's a mess !

When I worked in Redfern I got so f**king sick of Australian born Greeks and Italians alongside the Chinese who I suspect left Hong Kong in 1997 asking about Man Utd and couldn't give a shit about the NSL at the time never mind both codes of Rugby and the AFL as well as Soccer....was much further down the coast at Coogee etc and across the bridge in North Sydney and Manly.

Richardson does have a plan …. He has only been there 18 months …you gotta be a bit patient with him … he is a proven successful administrator

Last year they played all their games at LO and CS … they are working on a strategy to get govt upgrades at these stadiums by taking games elsewhere … one down one to go…. If Campbelltown gets an upgrade they will play 8 or 9 games there

The shopping center (heaps of parking) isn't too far away, about 1.5km and the train station is about 1km away. Agree that the stadium is pretty basic, but I'm sure clubs like Canberra, Perth, Warriors, Sharks, Manly, Tigers and Dragons would kill to have a CBUS

Robina isn’t out in the sticks. The stadium is just off the motorway and that entire area of Robina, Varisty Lakes and Mudgreeba is packed to the rafters.

The stadium is near to the train station. The light rail is slowly heading towards Burleigh and beyond. Buses will eventually interconnect all the light rail stops and run through the main back streets to the train stations and destination points ie CBus. The train station will eventually get expanded to the GC airport. It’s all in the pipeline.

The stadium isn’t far from Robina town center where you’ll find restaurants, bars etc.

The stadium was admittedly originally built before the area and infrastructure had been properly built up but now it’s actually perfectly positioned. Just took the area a little bit to catch up.

It's not racist to say that immigrants aren't adopting RL in Australia. It's not even racist to say that mass migration (not migration, but mass migration) is a disaster.

BTW I've noticed more and more Asians at Broncos games these days. I take my Japanese partner often and she loves it too. The young generation seem to be attracted to it so it's definitely possible. It's more likely the Dragons haven't even bothered trying to engage the new demographics of their area.
