The funding gets them there quicker than otherwise
...which actually reinforces my point. PNG minus massive Government funding equals one broke-as club.

Sure, you could argue that if (when?) that financial support gets pulled-back, they'll have the revenue streams & momentum to stand on their own feet, and if that happens to be the case that'd be great....

BUT I repeat - I have strong doubts that's the case.

Will become one of the richest clubs once another government stumps up over $300m to get them started. Don't they say getting the first million is the hardest, the one's after that are easier.

They wouldn’t have got in without the funding

Nor would Perth

290 million is three times what the storm got

And they have juniors and are the main sport

Robina isn’t out in the sticks. The stadium is just off the motorway and that entire area of Robina, Varisty Lakes and Mudgreeba is packed to the rafters.

The stadium is near to the train station. The light rail is slowly heading towards Burleigh and beyond. Buses will eventually interconnect all the light rail stops and run through the main back streets to the train stations and destination points ie CBus. The train station will eventually get expanded to the GC airport. It’s all in the pipeline.

The stadium isn’t far from Robina town center where you’ll find restaurants, bars etc.

The stadium was admittedly originally built before the area and infrastructure had been properly built up but now it’s actually perfectly positioned. Just took the area a little bit to catch up.

@nko11 did a good write up on this in another thread.
Been meaning to make this post for a bit. Have finally found time.

A. The NRL won't (or definitely shouldn't) cede the Gold Coast to AFL. It's one of the fastest gorwing cities and will be 1 million+ in short order.

B. Even though on-field performance hasn't improved, there are a lot of exciting developments off the field that are setting the Titans up for improved attendances and connection to the city.

For the stadium, there are two main things that needed to be focussed on and they are slowly but surely being addressed. Amenities around the ground and Transport. The stadium itself is very good and only needs small incremental improvements over the next 20 years to keep pace with other stadiums + maybe look for a cheap way to get better airflow into the stands on hot days. Reassess around 2040 to see if capacity increases are needed and add an extra tier of seats, if needed up to 40k.

Amenities around the ground
The stadium was built on a greenfield site in the western side of the city. When it was first built there was only really cow paddocks around the ground. If people complain about nothing to do around the ground at Accor Stadium, this was multiple times worse. See below for what the area around the ground looked like in June 2008.

Since 2008, there have been a number of developments around the ground. See below for what it looked like in April of 2025. Still lots of development planned around the site:
Orange - Lakeview
Dark Blue - Cascade Gold Coast
Light Blue - Greenheart Robina Parklands
Purple - Was meant to be Olympic Village, but will be developed soon. Too prime a piece of real estate.
Brown - Paloma House development
Yellow - Can't seem to find info on it, but remember there being a development planned for here.
Red - Same for here

The density around the ground will invite more developments in terms of hospitality. Would love to see a mini Caxton street built between the station and the stadium, however unlikely. The Parklands only just opened in the last month or so. Great draw card for families and would love for the Titans to try to integrate it into gamedays (thinking South American Festival during Carnival, Markets on Sundays before games, get Bond University and Griffith University involved in Tailgates; similar to college football in America, etc.). Lots of opportunities to improve the overall gameday experience and increase the gameday experience from 2 hours to 4 or 5 hours. Also spreads out arrivals, which improves the transportation experience overall.

Transportation
Transportation is the area that is a bit slow going. As it is on the Gold Coast. Serviced quite in the rail corridor. Anywhere East of the stadium, requires walking and multiple changeovers of buses unless you're lucky enough to live next to one of few the event bus stations run on gameday. In the medium to long-term, light rail should hopefully run through to the stadium. Stage 3 of the Light Rail down to Burleigh needs to be completed first. Below are a couple of options for the route put forward.

This would help immensly to connect the stadium to the eastern parts of the city. To give an idea, at the moment, it takes me 60 minutes (two buses) to get to Cbus. If this was built, it would take me around 20 minutes.

Ontop of this, they are building 3 new heavy rail stations currently, with the crossriver rail project. These stations will be in Pimpama, Hope Island, and Merrimac. This will increase rail access further for the Western Suburbs. Plus if they ever extend the Heavy rail from Varsity to the Gold Coast Aiport, the whole of the Southern Gold Coast will be covered quite well and will bring an extra 50k+ people within a 20 minute Train ride to the stadium.

All-in-all alot of improvement since inception with even more either planned or logically happening within the next 15-20 years. Just need the team to have a period of top 8 finishes and you will really start to see these improvements bare fruit.

It’s a shame Titans haven’t been successful on the field as things could be very different. They haven’t been as successful as hoped but they are doing alright for a club that has made the finals 4 times in 19 seasons.

Why build a 300 million stadium for a Gold Coast club in the Gold Coast hinterlands ?

The choice was poor

Sure if they reduced the pricing of tickets and aren’t awful they will get to 20k

Here’s a question for you

Say they wanted to build a new stadium for the broncos out in the surburbs would you support it based on future population growth
It’s not the hinterlands. It was built in an area projected for a heavy growth; now that’s where it’s at. Located in a heavily populated area (of local residents).

Comparing that to the Broncos and a prospective stadium isn’t the same. But for giggles; the Broncos did play in McGregor during the 90’s at QSAC which is in the burbs and it is heavily populated. However: Lang Park already existed prior to the Broncos and it was upgraded so the point is null. Keep in mind that the previous state government were favouring in building the new Olympic stadium in that same location in McGregor. So I think that somewhat answers you there.

Further to this Milton, Toowong, Auchenflower, Red Hill, Paddington, Bardon all around Suncorp are heavily dense in population. Comparing it to GC; say in a Surfers area etc isn’t the same because that’s a tourist spot where as most of Brisbane north to south passes ICB right next to Suncorp.

A local GCer won’t go to Surfers or other likened GC areas unless they need to - they’re likely to just go to a beach or wherever is closest. IE Robina, Varisty Lakes will go to Burleigh, Miami, maybe Palm Beach, Currumbin, Kirra, Green Mount etc. Also to go north to south in GC you use the motorway which CBus is literally off. You don’t use Gold Coast highway because currently it’s an unmitigated congestive mess for traffic. I have digressed though.

If a new GC stadium was getting built tomorrow; as I mentioned before - it would be built in Coomera or Helensvale. That’s where they’re plonking a new state of the art hospital, that’s where the have built a massive Westfield, that’s where multiple home estates have gone in etc.

At the time of CBus concept - all that above was happening around Robina, Varsity Lakes etc. Hence here we are.

Somewhere on gc highway is where it should’ve been built

Like the location of the convention centre

Going forward your right it won’t harm their crowd prospects but to date it hasn’t helped like It shouldve

I just remembered I had a relo who has a mansion out in the hinterland which I’ve stayed at

Around Currumbin but way inland
