Maybe a bit of second year syndrome.
But I think it's a bit early to hang him upside down and whip the flesh off him.
We should wait at least 5 games.

Seriously though, I thought both him and Luai were poor, maybe I was expecting too much, it was there first game together, but it looked like they hadn't even trained together.

I’ve got my reasons, but I agree Galvo is entitled to a leave pass.

I’d be thinking about swapping him and JL about Tbh.

I just added a bit to my post, they are both huge talents to not improve on this game.

Though, I agree, they should be looking at this, Luai isn't the best 6 in the business for no reason.

But I don't think they will panic just yet.

I'm not trying to do that but he has been poor and we have Latu who may be better than him. I'm concerned about the tunnel vision with Galvin.

He was poor and Benji and the coaching staff need to see he was poor in the trials as well.

You look at Mason. I reckon he has been great. At the same time I don't think he should be in first grade right now. He is a back-up option. The hype around Mason is just much much lower and he can develop his game over the next couple of seasons without a massive price tag and media exposure.

Seriously though, I thought both him and Luai were poor, maybe I was expecting too much, it was there first game together, but it looked like they hadn't even trained together.

I thought Luai was decent but he didn't create enough. It was his first game with the club though. I expect a lot better over the course of his contract.

Here are some other questions that I think the coaching staff needs to consider:-

1. Do we have too many left side dominant halves - Luai, Galvin and Latu ?
2. Is Galvin a lock in the Yeo mold but too small right now ?
3. Is Latu more likely to create something compared to Galvin by himself ?

I also think we need a centre who can create something and Seyfarth didn't do enough but I think these are much smaller issues than sorting out our attack.

I think you need to be able to score points to do well in this comp. Last night is a classic example. We stopped points but we couldn't score.

And the idiots on channel 9 said after the second game that the score in our game didn’t reflect the quality or closeness of the game.

It was only two points.

Tools.

At least Benji angrily refused to answer what he thought went wrong for us right at the end of the presser.

My Benji meter went from heading further into the negative and headed towards the positive for a brief moment.

Benji said during the presser that he didn’t begrudge May wanting to spend time with his family. There’s our 9-5 coach with his overseas holiday booked.

Dont forget I thought May was probably better than most of the guys we actually targeted.I’m excited to have him.
All it means is, we are not going to finish the season undefeated.

There’s no analysis these days, it’s just a flurry of bullshit and celebrity building.

They said it was a great game.

Watching our attack and defence for 70 minutes wasn’t that great.

And I doubt Newcastle fans thought it was great until the end.

It had those inspired moments of derp.

The first ten, we played good first grade footy.

Our attack, let’s not go there, it’s too painful.

“This is the best training we’re going to get is putting games together and getting that experience,” Luai said.

“It was our first big test tonight and we’re not quite there yet, but we’re going to be there.”

Straight outta Tim’s presser archives, but what else could he say. Lol.

I'm not sure about this. I'm still expecting Luai to be one of the elite halves in the comp for us. I think he was pretty good.

I think the criticism is that he was nowhere near Ponga's level and we are paying him to have that impact but it's early days.

Admitted I wouldn't of watched the game as closely as any of you guys but what I did see it was the same old Luai.

Did he leave the left side?

looking at his numbers. The kicking game seemed shared with Galvin and he had less runs than Galvin

I still have him as the best 6 in the game. He is great at playing eyes up footy but just not organising.

The timing of the pass for your try is Luai at his best. Problem is you see it maybe 2 times a game

It's only ever great, when you win.
Anything else sucks.

I have no problems with him playing like the best 6 in the game. I think part of his game is organizing and he did that at Penrith with Cleary out.

Again, it was his first hit out for the club (he didn't play the trials), it's all a bit early to write anything off atm.

I am sure he will chat with Benji and work it out.

The comp has started, there's no where to hide.

Cheer up Tigers fans. You’ve got one of the best halves, one of the best props and one of the best hookers in the comp along with one of the best youngsters in the comp too (Galvin) and it’s going to take time for it all to click.

It was a pretty low quality game all round last night and the Knights have a habit of winning those dirty, ugly sort of games. We basically have to win that way given that AOB doesn’t like playing expansive football.

The Tigers were definitely in the drivers seat for around 50 mins I would say and just couldn’t put us away. But it’s not a disaster, your mob will definitely improve but it it’ll take time for Luai to instil that winning mentality.

Mason: 5 = I think some of here are a bit harsh on the bloke. A second string fullback who had a dig I thought. Good first half but you could see he felt more unsure of himself as that second half went on. Weak in def and his sole error at the back cost us dearly. Please heal up Bula!

Turuva: 7 Ball rarely went down his side yet was not shy to do some work. Very solid club debut.

Douehi: 5 = A bit of a nothing factor in attack but I thought he defended okay.

Faataape 2 = I can never fault this man's effort but his defence is simply not first grade standard. Sad to say this but needs to be dropped for Starford or Bird next week.

Skelton: 8 = Immense.....could not ask for more from a man making his debut. A fantastic buy which I don't think cost the club much at all.

Galvin: 3 = He is already disliked by some sections of our fanbase and the longer he doesn't sign on, the harder our fans are going to give him a hard time about it. But, he needs to (and Im confident he will be) be better than today. His short kicking game was horrid and the crab style running just didn't work.

Luai: 4 = Decent enough kicking game.....needed to take more control in the red zone than what he did. His vision was responsible for our try. He'll get better.

May: 8 = Lucky as f**k to get this bloke. He'll get better as well.

Hope: 3 = A bit of a nothing type match from him. A couple of passes were not great. De Silva looked a lot better than when he came on.

Pole: 4 = A bit disappointed in this bloke yesterday. Apart from a patch early in the second half, was pretty shit in attack. He was even worse in defence. His defensive style was pretty much around the ankles with no real efforts to put on dominant tackles.....which has been a major issue with our side for a long time. He needs work.

Samuela Fainu: 4 = Apart from the centres, our weakest position is the back-row. Fainu is our best backrower from last year but my lord, he was ineffective yesterday on both sides of the ball. Given my expectations of this bloke, he was my biggest disappointment yesterday. If he doesn't lift his game, we are f**ked.

Seyfarth: 2 = That performance was vintage pre 2024 quality from Seyfarth. Slow and non-threating in attack. We are in big trouble backrower wise this year. We need someone to emerge from the lower grades.

Twal: 6 = He had his usual dig. A pass mark.

Da Silva: 4 = Better passing game than Hope and a better mover. Not the best defender which is why Hope got minutes very early and late into the game.

Hunt: 4 = The more time goes on, the more Im thinking this guy is a dud. He was meant to play more minutes than at Nulla....but if anything, he looks more unfit than ever. Hope he proves me wrong.

Bird: 5 = I liked his effort but needs to tighten up a bit in defence.

Fainu: Not enough game time to really assess his value.

From that game, we have three big challenges to overcome if we going to go up the ladder.

1. Fitness: I am hoping this is just an early season thing....but every other side in the comp that I've seen (apart from the Warriors) played the 80 out fitness wise. We were tired from the 30 minute mark while we were in front. Hopefully, fitness comes together quickly and not like what happened with Souths.

2. Defence: I was extremely happy with our scramble defence which absolutely saved the game from becoming a blowout. But, we can't do that every game. Our defence needs to learn bend attackers back, not just struggle to bring them down. This part of our game has been a concern for a very long time and was still evident yesterday.

3. Backrowers: Our centres are an issue but the biggest is our backrow. We need a lower grader to somehow stand up as we are looking very bleak in this area.

The question for Benji is who and what he’s going to tweak.

I mean it’s not a emergency situation of wholesale changes, but we need effective ones.

@Wizardman assessment, mighty effort.

I’m less critical of Heaths game, but do we bank on him improving?

I had Tito at the back tbh.

We’ve been here before.

Where previous coaches have failed us is that we haven’t been able to build or improve.

And that has to be incremental and not go backwards.

One or two marquee games is fine, but unsustainable.

I also think we need APIs game smarts, his awareness and his drive. Hes blessed in these departments, up there with the best.

I think he would have made a huge difference last night.

It highlights even more how pisspoor our pack was yesterday.
I thought Pole and Fainu were disappointing, not terrible but could have done more. You’d think May with all his carries would lift the rest of the forwards but instead the backs were picking up the slack

Twal was ok, not flashy but did his job

seyfarth was his usual average self .. lack of better options I guess.

Hunt had good impact but he’s severely limited. I don’t think he’ll ever turn into a big minute prop

Bird didn’t do much but I noticed he cleaned up the middle when he came on for a bit
