Just watched the presser, Benji was trotting out the development line, then he switched to should have won and finally he raised the bad spells which he wouldn’t elaborate upon.

I’d suggest one of them was that knight who beat us up the middle leaving 6 defenders in his wake. A bit of speed involved, but that was woeful!

I agree with Benji that there were some good efforts from certain players and some are showing a lot of promise, but also some pretty telling lack of focus at key times.

Jerome was across his brief in the conference, but couldn’t hide his disappointment.

Frustrating kind of match in so many ways, but that’s how we roll.

And it didn’t help that Ponga had one of his dominant freak marquee games. We hit him on a bad day…for us.

I’m not pulling the lighter out to torch the membership yet.

As we talked about before, the market has us 10th-13th at seasons end.

I thought for the first hit out with all the new players, we went OK. They all showed their value.
We gave ourselves an opportunity to get 2 pts., though it sucks to lose.
This was their first game together, they will only improve on it.
I thought the halves were the weak link tonight, but again, it was their first game together.
Though our set plays continue to be non-existent.
The forwards were solid.
The backs were not too bad.
I still think on their second try, the winger touched the sideline.
Just on the fitness, N'C were struggling as well, we all know that nothing replicates match fitness, we were no different imo.

The missed tackles didn't really disadvantage us, our scramble was good, I'd be a lot more worried if we had 20+ points put on us.

It wasn’t a great showing, but a lot of the things wrong were good round one issues. The passing imo was slow and disjointed, the timing was off and the combinations weren’t there yet. We will get a lot better. Our last round 1 victory was as in 2020, this was probably our best round 1 since then.

May looks like a great pick up
We had a bye last year, 2 points 😂

Well one is a kid and the other is on 1.3m and won 4 premierships .. And both couldnt force a repeat set .. on our own home ground. I know which one i expected more from
Galvin got one repeat, but he had heaps of attempts, should’ve had three but shit defence allowed Ponga to get over the line

Us Panthers fans told you about Luai. He is good for a few good touches a game. The rest needs to come from elsewhere. So many times we were waiting for something when Cleary wasn't there. It came but usually from others

Maybe Api helps enough to get points going

Well, I ain't going to diss him on the first game he has played with his teammates.
It will improve.

I'm not sure about this. I'm still expecting Luai to be one of the elite halves in the comp for us. I think he was pretty good.

I think the criticism is that he was nowhere near Ponga's level and we are paying him to have that impact but it's early days.

Galvin is a concern to me right now. He has been talked up so much by way too many people and his performances aren't being judged objectively.

He was poor yesterday. He was poor in the trials.

JL was playing to a design or plan, which worked in some measure but not entirely.

Newcastle put the accelerator on near the end and swamped us. Just came in over the top.

And we surrendered when we should have been stepping up.

And the stupidity of the Best affair at the end. The ball is live and we praying to Buddha.

And the idiots on channel 9 said after the second game that the score in our game didn’t reflect the quality or closeness of the game.

It was only two points.

Tools.

At least Benji angrily refused to answer what he thought went wrong for us right at the end of the presser.

My Benji meter went from heading further into the negative and headed towards the positive for a brief moment.

Benji said during the presser that he didn’t begrudge May wanting to spend time with his family. There’s our 9-5 coach with his overseas holiday booked.

Dont forget I thought May was probably better than most of the guys we actually targeted.I’m excited to have him.

Maybe a bit of second year syndrome.
But I think it's a bit early to hang him upside down and whip the flesh off him.
We should wait at least 5 games.

Seriously though, I thought both him and Luai were poor, maybe I was expecting too much, it was there first game together, but it looked like they hadn't even trained together.

But I also think they will get it together, both are far too talented to fail.
