Re Crosslands, it's a big call but I'd sooner see him at 6 and Green at 7. I just don't see what Pearce offers right now. I feel he is a liability in many aspects and he should pay for it. How slow and lost he looked during the intercept play really highlights where he's at right now imo.

Really is the elephant in the room still.

One bloke went loopy when he passed the ball today.

Halfback passes ball = rich vein of form.

A million a season and a pass was the highlight today. A 50K pass.

I thought against that Manly side today, a million dollar half might carve up a bit.

Hopefully we'll see some form in the semi finals.

Pearce was fine today. Nothing wrong with his kicking, strong defensively and running game looked good. The intercept was a huge play.

He’s not playing to his 2018 standard or the purple patch last year but he’s hardly a liability.

I beg to differ to an extent. Are his last play options not an advantage to the opposition?

I'm just looking for areas for improvement. Not happy to rest on laurels, particularly when we don't play even close to our potential. Given the situation, Manly were the better side and probably deserved to win today.

I didn't like the way we went away from the attacking depth of last week. Realistically, we should have won this game by a comfortable margin.
Not sure about Manly being the better team, I think Manly were the more determined team today.

I remember last year during the Roosters game, Dsaf knocked Keary into next week and he spilled the ball and we scored " The knights are turning their defense into their attack " was Phil Goulds comment.

I want us to be like that Roosters game, up tempo, determined, aggressive and play with intent. Today we looked unenthused.

his stats ref the kicking were horrendous today. I cant recall a lower kick mtr ever and I look at stats most weeks. Shocking in fact.

Edit- NRL stats have him as kicking 243 mtrs ( Green 121 ) .......Cherry Evans - 474. Manly slaughtered us in the kicking dept today. Killed us.

I suspect one thing that goes to explaining those numbers is the amount of time we spent at Manly's end of the field. I don't feel like we spent a lot of time in positions where we needed to kick out of trouble.

I meant his kick choices. One of his kicks led to a try, his long kicks were pretty good and the bombs were good too.

Green did most of the kicking in Manly’s 20 which is what everyone wanted.

Mitch Pearce is an odd one. If it hasn't happened already, I think AOB needs to sit him down and have a real good chat as we lead into the finals. He needs to be shown a compilation of his 5th tackle options and how 90% of his kicks are useless.

Also needs to have a chat about him being the leader in the whole NRL for missed tackles. This may be misleading as he is always prepared to rip in but he is getting bounced off a lot and this tends to put pressure on the guys either side of him then.

I think now is a good time to have a chat on him and get him to focus on one thing at a time each game as we lead into the finals because if we are to do any damage there I think we need Pearce to get some simple things right and it'll make a huge difference for us.

Exactly. No point throwing up stats if you have no idea what they actually mean. So what Manly had double our kicking metres. Just means that they had to do a f**kload more clearing kicks out of their end than we did

Manly conceded 11 penalties to 4. They slaughtered us in that department. Killed us.

It's all Pearce's fault

I didn't know this stat. That's even more alarming than his incompetent kicking game. People who defend him consistently point to his great defence but now he's the worst defender in the league?

I like Pearce at his best but he's pretty much a spud out there right now and has been for too long. What to do with him?

I don’t think you are giving Manly enough credit. They were much better than last weeks Tigers.

Also, Green was average yesterday, however that probably doesn’t suit your agenda right?

Our field position was much better than Manly’s. He didn’t need to kick huge metres if we were in their half!

Look I'll call out Pearce if he has a bad game and I still at this point doubt he's the halfback who can take us to a premiership. Maybe he could pull off a Roycey Simmons in the finals but history is against him.

In saying that though, I don't think he put in a bad performance yesterday and I'm not going to kick the guy for no good reason. He wasn't outstanding, but he linked up fairly well with the other parts of the spine and did what was required I thought.

I didn't come out of that game thinking gee Pearce had another shocker. He has had them, but yesterday wasn't one of them. I came out of that game thinking this Manly team is a bunch of hard bastards, and loving the fact that DCE threw all he had at us and yet his team still didn't come out on top.

I loved our fighting spirit, I love what Mitch Barnett is doing for our team and I think despite his detractors Kalyn Ponga is going to be one hell of a player for us in the years ahead. Even if we lost that game, I would have been proud of that gutsy effort from the team. It wasn't a perfect performance, but it will go down as one of my more favourite wins this season because we didn't give up.

Pearce has improved since a few weeks ago but he's still well out of form. Got no one better though.

Noticed we've only beaten one other top 8 side all year.
Feels like we might be good enough to get 5th or 6th and a first week home final, win that but then get knocked out second week against one of the top 4. Although I don't rate the eels, could jag a win against them I guess.

Would be a fair result for the rookie head coach in his first year.

Bunnies, Raiders and a draw with Penrith. Haven't been beaten by a cricket score yet, either. Yet to play the Sharks. It's actually better than you're describing, even on paper. Barring a total collapse, we're having our best season in a long time.

Pearce isn't going to suddenly improve out of sight. The team is better orientated to cover his weaknesses and highlight his strengths with Green in the team.

Also, missed tackles doesn't automatically make him the 'worst defender in the league'... Stats out of context are meaningless.

Let's get some context:

How many total tackles has he made?
What's his miss percentage?
How does he rank compared to other halves?
Did any miss tackles lead to points?

While the stat does raise some eyebrows, it isn't the end all. Real footy isn't Fansty NRL.

Not trying to stand up for Pearce, just making a statement that one stat out of context doesn't tell the whole story.
