Remember how Joey Leilua loved playing the Tigers?

Nice of the ABC to remind us.

Joey came to the Tigers declaring himself as the world's best centre.

Joey left the Tigers to play for the Featherstone Rovers in a second tier league comp in England (Featherstone has a population of 16,000).

I can see a similar score coming up. It's interesting we are letting Tamou go. I reckon he is as good as what we are going to get on the market place.

He's not on huge coin.

Highest paid Tigers players for 2022:
Luke Brooks $960k
Adam Doueihi $560k
Joe Ofahengaue $550k
Jackson Hastings $500k
David Nofoaluma $500k

I don't know where you get your figures but based on speculation that is about as accurate as I've seen.

Jackson Hastings
$500,000
Returned in the off-season from almost four years in England and has been a fixture in the Tigers side this season, generally in the halves but more recently at lock. He kicked a match winning field goal to sink Parramatta in Round 6. Has one year remaining on his deal and has already been linked with a move elsewhere as the Tigers juggle their halves dilemma with Adam Doueihi and Luke Brooks both on the books.

David Nofoaluma
$510,000
Before his loan move to Melbourne, Nofoaluma was having a mixed season for the Tigers, showing glimpses of his best but also finding himself out of the side. In previous years, he has been one of their most consistent and loyal performers and has been paid as such. At 28, he still has three years left on his rich Tigers deal but, despite that, his future remains unclear.

Joe Ofahengaue
$550,000
Made the move from Brisbane last year and there have been mixed reviews about his performance at the Tigers. Was a State of Origin player but hasn’t been able to replicate that form in recent times. Despite that, he remains one of the club’s highest-paid players.

Adam Doueihi
$560,000
Arguably the Tigers best player, Doueihi is also one of their best paid. Recently returned from a second knee surgery and the club is set to sit down in coming weeks to begin talks over a contract extension – he has one year remaining on his current deal.

Luke Brooks
$960,000
The Tigers halfback is in the penultimate year of a mega deal that makes him one of the highest paid halves in the game. He is poised to join the million-dollar club next season. The only question is whether it will be with the Tigers or he will seek greener pastures in 2023.

Just based on the those 5, there’s $3,070,000.
I’d love to have the power to offer players the door or reduced contracts.
Brooks, door or $500k
AD, $570k they certainly need a goal kicker
JO, $590k best forward in 2022
JH, $650k
DN, door or $480k
Theres a saving of $280k.

If only.

You can't do it but I think that is what the Tigers are trying to do with Brooks. He is the big fish in the pond atm.

Joe O and Hastings salaries sound okay. Hastings probably deserves a pay rise. I'm not convinced Joe O needs a pay rise but he has been our best player this year. It's just that he is a middle forward and we've already bet big on Stef and we have players like Pole and Matamua coming through.

Brooks at 500k is decent. At 1 million it's a joke.
AD is massively overpaid for 2 good games this season. Maybe we'll get 3 good games out of him. Maybe he'll develop some consistency to his game next season. He is basically our best hope for significant improvements but you wonder if his salary could be used to get a better player.
Nofo is a good player but 500k for a winger is crazy money. I thought Staines was on something like 400k which is even more hilarious.

I'd like to see us re-sign Hastings and then Doueihi. If Brooks doesn't take a pay cut we should let him go at the end of his contract. It's his choice.

Yeah we’re definitely paying overs for Brooks by a long way! For comparison, Cam Munster is on 950k and it’s light and day between who is a better player between the two. Dylan Brown and Jarome Luai are on 650k and 680k respectively.

Nofo is on a good wicket. There are only a couple of other wingers on similar coin- Waqa Blake 510k, Addo-Carr 500k and Corey Oates 500k.

The elephant in the room is Moses Mbye. The Tigers are forking out 450k per year on Moses Mbye who is currently on 900k a season at the Dragons, which is a complete joke.

The Tigers are tipping in about half of Mbye’s mega salary despite allowing the utility to leave the club at the end of last season. Mbye had another year left on his ridiculously overpaid contract at the Tigers. Signed at St George Illawarra for two years.
