This. All of it.
Good thing we give contract extensions to blokes like Thomas Cant before a game is played because "he trains hard". Really got to lock down bog standard undersized forwards that no other club is interested in.
So a 22 yr old young fella plays the full 80, in only his 5th NRL game, in a losing side- tops the tackle count, makes the most run mtrs of any forward in the team and the most post contact mtrs is "bog standard" and not worthy of a contract extension?

Jeez the internet - go back to sleep champ.

He is small though. Don't know if he would get into any top 17 at a good club. He is a goer and I like him but he needs more to his game because he just isn't big or athletic enough to make a big difference in games.

I think Cant looked great against the Roosters in the second trial. He was really bending the line. He’s not effective against big packs like the Titans.

and he's not in the top 17 at the Knights either - 5 NRL games

I'll take a 22 yr old, 5 games into a career, on a pie and coke, topping the rm @153 and topping the tackle count @ 56 any day.

There's a bloke called King that's doin just fine @ storm and a young Kiwi rep just re-signed that people on here bagged ad nauseam

Let's re-sign Elliot and Hetherington yeh?

Dr is 100% spot on

Anyone using his size as a factor is not following the current game close enough. Hes similar to Cotter, Radley and Young and they are all modern forwards.

Cant is young and needs time . He has what is difficult to coach, ticker, and arguably its far more important than talent. Put him in the Melb system and he would shine

Again, I Iike the lad. Don't mind having him in the top 30 but there is literally one squad position for players like him and we have it filled with Jones, Cant and Tyrone. That's not good depth. Not good squad management.

Not saying it's the current management's fault and they are doing a great job rectifying it. We have some great young forwards coming through and I don't know if we can keep carrying all of Cant, Jones and the Tyrones of the world. Tyrone might turn into a Kiwi rep level prop but probably won't and Jones/Can't isnt going to be in a Premiership winning 17 come grand final day.

I'll say it again, I'm a fan of Cant. He needs to develop something more though if he wants to a 15 year NRL player. Be an amazing line runner or an offload or become a link man 13. Something.

Jones has filled out with age and was prop on the weekend, same Tyrone.

Most young fellas when asked about their initiation into the NRL talk of the speed of the game and being gassed after 10 min - Cant just played 80 min in the forwards in only his 5th NRL game, and (I'll say again) topped the tackle count, and ran for more mtrs and post contact mtrs than all other forwards

I'd be surprised if he was not Players Player on the weekend- he was outstanding.

Too early to say he will or wont make it in the NRL, but as yet he's done nothing to suggest he wont have a good career.

You win Premierships with players like Cant in your roster.

Hope he kicks on and kills it.
