You know it's true. Pretty sure everyone has had the same attitude here for the last 2 seasons. Why should it be any different now?

Because we're playing much,much better?
Not really.

Most games last year we had defined periods in each half where we looked great. Same as this season.

We have probably increased those good periods by 5 minutes a half.

Keep your heads in the sand guys. But we still suck.

I'm trying to remember our first 3 games last year but off the top of my head we were beaten by 18pts by the Titans, 40pts by Souths and 20pts by Warriors. We've played the same 3 teams so far this season and have a 4 point loss, an 8 point win and a 6 point loss.

Seems to be pretty different this year so far which is cause for at least some restrained optimism. I predict we'll have quite a few close losses this year just because we're not used to winning and it's still a bit of a foreign concept to us. However at least there's a few other teams who look dead set terrible this year, the Titans have no depth and the Dragons are shit house, and despite their win in Townsville Manly have looked very average as well.

If we can win a few more home games and jag the occasional upset away from home I think we can avoid the spoon.

Anyone else reckon Buhrer to hooker is dumb? We should leave him in the backrow for 80 minutes. Randell can give Levi a spell. Young Stoney needs a rest anyway.

Randell has been struggling in NSW Cup. Kostjasyn will be back in a few weeks too.

Here are my thoughts on some of the key issues in our team at the moment:

Fullback - We can't knock Brendan Elliott for having a go, but he's not quite up to playing with the big boys unfortunately. I'm not sure what our solution is to this problem unfortunately. Maybe Pete would be better at FB for the rest of the year just so we've got a bigger body at the back. Elliott can play wing and Ross at centre?

Our halves - Once again there's not much we can do here because our options are extremely limited. Looks like it's Hodko and Lamb all year. Lamb has shown signs of being a good first grader over the last few weeks but we need to see more from him imo, he still make poor decisions in defence and his brain explosion with that Souths kick off cost us big time and lead to us conceding the lead. Worst way we could have started the half really. He's gotta learn from it fast imo.

Our bench - Stockwell and Jacob have been good for us so far, and I really like what Yates is bringing. Not sure about Stone though, he's having a go but not producing a lot in limited game time. I think that once Kostjasyn and Pauli are back they will both come into the bench, Rory can give Levi a spell and Stockwell can go on at lock for Barnett and Pauli can be part of the prop rotation. Yates and Stone won't play out the year in FG, will be good for them to drop back to Cup for a bit after a bit of a taste of FG.

I honestly am liking our halves atm. Their combination is working pretty well. Both of their big errors cost us dearly yesterday but overall Hodkinson is playing much better then last year, and I'm liking Lamb.

Would say our problem in the halves is similar to the problem at fullback. An injury to Hodko or Lamb and were up the sh*t creek. Feeney is terrible. Gotta pick someone up midseason.

Knowing our fortune like I do, I'm betting this will be the one year where no-one of any quality is freed up mid-year, and we end up with a bunch of salary cap and our cocks in our hands.

Surely Randell to hooker for 20 minutes is better then a fatigued Buhrer to hooker? The consensus around Randell here is way over the top, he's not that bad. If he's been struggling in ISP though, that is a concern.

I don't mind Randall but he was garbage in cup yesterday.

Apart from losing a scrum against the feed and getting himself binned when the game was there to be won, Hodko had 2 runs and 3 kicks yesterday. How anyone can think they is acceptable I don't know. Buhrer and Barnett spend more time at first receiver in the attacking 20.

Agree with Hollywood that Hunt is lucky his tackle was only graded reckless, too.

I don't think we'll see Gurgess for a while anyway, he was already on thin ice with Madge prior to this match - which is probably why he lashed out after a few mistakes.

2 weeks for an intentional elbow is a travesty. He should be gone for 6 weeks.

The team is much improved over last season thus far. There seems to be a good culture at the club at the moment with the players that have been brought in actually wanting to be here and do well, the deadbeats let go.

What do you think will happen to that culture if Hodkinson is dropped and an outside half brought straight in to first grade in Soward? It couldn't be good.

I'm no Hodkinson fan but we are stuck with him until his contract is over. You just don't ditch your half and captain and replace him with an outside the club signing.
