So 20 yr old Reed Mahoney can play 80 mins, make 50 tackles and put great kicks in to end sets late in the game all with career experience of about 12 NRL games.

Why can't we have that standard of hooker?

You say that as if Parramatta have constantly produced hookers of high standard when in reality, they've only produced Peats who has a single noteworthy season beneath his belt. Credit to Parra, they maintained a good prospect and they're reaping the benefits of that; like you're envious of them with Mahoney, I'm sure others will be of a similar mindset when guys like Hoy and Crossland come through.

Besides, the idea that every hooker is the same with the same strengths and weaknesses, has all round the same game is an immensely gross straw clutch.

How far off are Hoy and Crossland?

How far off are Hoy and Crossland?

At least a year. They're both only 18 iirc and we have the wiggle room to not throw them in before they're ready. Crossland learning next to Pearce for one or two years would be best.

He must be one out of the box hey.

Danny Levi - 23 yrs old, 70 first grade games, played for NZ. Not yet able to play 80 mins (apparently), no kicking game.

That young Mahoney bloke is a machine, an anomoly in an otherwise bland world of plain hookers who struggle to keep up for half a game of rugby league. In a era of bigger, faster, stronger - the attributes of NRL players wearing the number 9 jersey have defied human evolution and their job description is one that requires only freaks to fill the position for an entire game of NRL each week.

Yep, why would any club want to put years into developing a hooker with modern day 'hooker' skills??? Not an important position in a team??Just too hard? An immense gross straw clutch??

Hate to have a player with a skill set like Smith or Hodgson for 80 mins a week.

Would be dead set against a Cook or McInnes too.

Developing skills in a player to suit the position being played is just a f**king ridiculous concept in the era of professional sport.

Just easier to have a utility back fill the position part-time?

You another bloke with the herd mentality Freddo? Do you have any thoughts or input?

Or just read and throw dull barbs?

The latter one these days, mate. I used to be like you, but these days I have far too much going on in my life to spend my time on here passionately debating who is the most shit player on the team.

...but you keep coming back.

I can't see any debate about who is our most shit player anywhere.

So, possibly you are just full of shit and unable to converse?

Game day boys! So any team news?

Hopefully we see some early ball to the outside backs and get to see Ponga on his stick some more.

playing the game the coach wants him to play, that best suits our the team perhaps ?

how old is Smith ( who's a freak by the way ) Hodgson and Cook ? At Levi's age Cook wasnt even a first choice hooker .....McInnes doesnt exactly blow Levi out of the ballpark and he's 25 yrs old....

Developing players takes time, not all players burst onto the scene and become legends at an early age like Bedsy ( who's debut was in a side ready for a Premiership) or Joey...... I have no doubt our young players have had a stunted career growth playing in a team thats had the shit regularly kicked out of it

Yeah, I'm comparing Levi to Bedsy and Joey.

C'mon fellas, off the crack pipe for a while hey.

Honestly, not my point at all.

what is your point? We have a choice develop a young hooker in Levi or go into the market and pay big bucks for an established one. Maybe go for one with good potential like Blayke Brailey from the Sharks ? at 20 yrs old he is no better than Levi at the minute.

Just see my posts above.

Please don't tell us that a rugby league player must play 250 NRL games to be experienced enough to run, pass, tackle and kick.

Please.

- We'll suffer a key injury (ponga, pearce or klemmer)
- We'll lose 18+
- Dufty will have a blinder
- Pearce's shortkicking game will continue to be shit
- Mason Lino will miss a few important tackles
- Barnett to give away a penalty within the first 15mins
- Tariq Sims to score a double
- Josh King to make an error
