Yeh it would be perfect to detect offside cases for kicks downtown and especially bombs.They have a computer draw a digital line across the field.
The reason I referred to the offside rule in that instance with Cobbo is because I thought the receiver was a step in front of Cobbo at the time he passed the ball. It was either a forward pass or he was offside.![]()
Digital imaging accompanied by all sorts of tech like gps could actually show the red line square for within 10m or a straight-line for offside which turns green for ok and red for not. The bunker can cycle through all the players quickly and we just see the end result.
It would get tricky to detect both feet behind the tryline for D or halfway line for kick offs but it would just need tweaking.
Players wear gps units on their shoulders to monitor players run meters so it could be incorporated with that.
How they use it to detect forward passes is tricky because it has to detect if the ball has left the passes hands backwards.
