He definitely wasn't top 30 when he played earlier this year was my point. NRL are being lenient with letting players from outside the top squad play and I doubt they'd stop Phythian, especially with our injury list.

Depressing that it's even a possibility he may be needed in first grade.
TBF Pythian looked pretty good when he played a couple of games for us back in 2017 or whenever it was. He definitely looked like someone who was worth persisting with at the time. But obviously injuries and off field issues meant his career stalled. Who knows though, I can’t see him being worse than Crossland anyway so why not throw him in?

Joey goes on to talk about how not many young players watch footy these days - I find it kind of bizarre. I understand it's their job and you probably don't want to consume it 24/7, but I bet some of the better teams love watching the games.

Because Joey mentioned it I feel he'd be referring to a number of guys in Newcastle. What are your thoughts on players not watching much footy and how it possibly affects the team?

EDIT: Joey also mentions how the Newcastle players notice when they get hammered on social media and how it affects them.

Don’t think we will win but a big effort is needed from all 17 finally selected. Crossland hasn’t starred this season but this is his chance, he is better than most think and playing/starting at 7 might be the answer, not tipping them but expecting a big improvement from all

I do understand why a lot of guys don’t want to watch other games on the weekend, spend your whole day involved in footy, much more other things to keep you occupied when your at home now eg. Netflix, games. But I definitely think being passionate enough to watch other teams when your at home gives you a better footy brain.

I don’t blame them for not watching their own games.

Ponga apparently doesn't watch much.

I can remember one time when Joey was injured he sat up in the stands and watched and said that he got ideas on how he could capitalise on attack and defence.
He came back even better.

Yep this is basically the point I'm getting at.

If there's that many players that don't watch or don't even like the game, I don't understand how you can be passionate enough to really put in and become the winners we all want them to be?

It should be all about improving your game.
I'd expect a Captain to at least watch the next opposition.

I’m sure they’d do their video reviews during the week - I’d hope so anyway.

Wasn’t meant to single out Ponga also. Joey said there are many. Think he even named Klemmer to my surprise.

I think he was naming Klemmer as someone who does, like Cleary and Hastings.

Of course Ponga doesn't watch the footy. Let's all be honest, we don't enjoy watching it either. Our team sux and other teams are so entertaining. I totally get why Ponga doesn't want to watch.

I can't see how we'd get Pythian in when we still have a top 30 spot open.
I reckon the NRL would say to use that first.
Same goes with others on the extended bench who aren't in the 30.
