I am hoping that the powers that be are looking ahead and training up Kiwi / French / PNG / Other match officials for the next tournament.

I know the French ref Thierry Alibert (?) has called it quits - but surely there is another to take his place.

Will we also see neutral refs from new frontiers reffing qualifiers ? USA v Jamaica with a Canadian Ref ??? If not, what is a reasonable timeline to expect this occurrence ?

Who amongst the new entries is the most advanced in match official coaching and progression ?

After the standard of refereeing in the NRL this season i hope we don't have to many Aussie refs. I prefer the pommy refs who let the game flow and are more consistent in their calls.

I know that in NZ they have their own officials referee the Warriors NSW Cup games when they play at home, so we could see a Kiwi ref or two in first grade some time soon and hopefully a couple in the World Cup.

logistically it's tough for nz refs to crack the nrl.
but if there's a couple weeks training prior to wc2017, elite 1 and nz refs should be good enough, particularly pool matches

Sure thats all we need, but why not strive for more? Increase development and sustainability...

I totally agree. I was just pointing out that we don't need to compromise the sport by using a ref from one of the competing nations. For the integrity of the game we must persevere with neutral refs.

Agreed. Standard can't be compromised. But, it should be possible for french, serbian, png refs to join the wc camp and at least ref a few exhibition, womens, police etc games or

With the argument once again raising its head re the non neutrality of refs for the Four Nations games this weekend I do hope we can avoid the same come 2017 !!!

I think it's a disgrace. No other sport does this and it's unfair on the ref to have to have this in the back of his mind while reffing just because Aus believe no-one is up to standard but their own refs.

I think impartial refs are a minimum and neutral is an ideal.

After our game against England yesterday in my opinion it showed that NRL refs are behind Super League refs.
If Sutton is the best ref in Australia heaven help us all.

I think the only problem would be the refs from the smaller nations (RL wise) getting to referee enough games of a good enough quality.

This is where the NRL and Superleague should be getting involved. Get these refs into lower grades with an outlook to becoming an NRL/Superleague ref

I think the rules of the game in England is slightly different to here in Aus, but in a better way.

They are at least trying to police the wrestle out of the game in England.

Sod Sheens.
It's something the RLIF need to ensure is in place....together with the bluddy rules of the game!
Correct. The RLIF need to grow a pair and make rules and stick to them
Sheens does annoy me and many others with his constant blaming of match officals when he loses games.
Now the latest from the idiot is that he wants all International involving Australia played under NRL rules. The mans a goose.
