exactly .... and its like this whether u have 1 or 25 players over the 8 years

the rule effectively says: If you have at least one player over 8yrs service, then you get an extra $100K on your salary cap

Due to this fact I see little use for it. Almost every other club would have an 8 year player.

I've answered this a couple of times so it would be nice to keep it in this thread so we're not duplicating the subject continuelly.

Tahu - Gone to union
Tim smith - expected to sign according to the media
Daniel Wagon
Ian Hindmarsh - retiring
Michael Lett
Etu Uasele
Feleti Mateo
Blake Green
Richard Fa'aosso
Aaron Cannings
Matt Keating
Justin tsolous
Junior Paolo

All from the top 25

Kris Keating
Taulima Tautai

Are also off contract and if signed could also move into the top 25 bracket.

The bold players are who i would try and keep. Cannings is apparently stillon contract, if so, id be happy if not wouldnt bother me if he left. Tsoulous and Paolo as back up, if they can find 1st grade spot anywhere else so be it. Fa'aosso, Feleti, Green and timmy will be in first grade (or pushing for a spot) and should be priority. News that timmy and green have/are in the process of resigning is good news. Mateo should be wrapped up now. Lett would be good for backup. We bought well last year.

If prior form is anything to go by Fitzgerald will release Mateo and Green now that they are showing they look like they are more than capable of playing first grade. On the bright side they will now go on to play for Australia (a la Willie Tonga) or go on to become Captain of a premiership winning team (Ryan Kidwell Hodgeson) We will then spend another 2-3 years developing more of our juniors.

Seriously though I hope they both re sign.

first of all, I'm still certain that Bubba is off contract as he only signed a 1 year deal last year and secondly Fredericko, this fascination that Fitzy does everything is a little tiresome he has absolutely nothing to do with the retention of players it's mainly Hagans call.

but yes I hope we re-sign them all.

I'm assuming Souths have this year's GF sewn up then? - cos Kidwell is a premiership winning capt .... so I'm gonna stop watching the games now - it spoils it if you know who wins :(

quite a collosus effort by Kidwell who will not only win the Grand Final but will make a miraculous recovery from a season ending injury.

btw, since when has Hodgson been a premiership winning captain???

Maybe when he takes all the credit for Brett Finch's five minute performance or does press conferences to trumpet re-signings like Hindmarsh and Grothe people somehow get the wrong idea.

Of course, he only has noithing to do with it if it is actually unpopular for any length of time.

I don't remember a press conference he conducted trumpeting the re-signings of Hindmarsh and Grothe, but I do remember him sticking his beak in areas where he shouldn't..in fact i'd be more than happy to see the back of him with anything involving our club.

See every thread where I psoted "But DF doesn't have anything to do with retention of players" and work back from there.

Not sure how many there'd be, but roughly as many as ones in which Suity has posted "What time" or Parra Pete has bagged Tim Smith.
