Mathews and Ball

Went to see the Mathews and Ball trials v Parra.

Mathews were thumped about 10 tries to nil, but it wasn't as bad as it sounds. They played the game in thirds and it was nil all after 20 minutes - then the Knights put on the seconds and were thumped.
We always improve over the season in Mathews, and i think the best of them have the makings of a final 8 side.

Ball was a different kettle of fish. I left just after half time with the Knights up about 6 tries to 3, and that flattered Parra.
Shay Padburg looked very sharp at halfback, and big Jeremy Maa looked lean and mean.
There was a big kid on the wing who looked very like Pat Mata'utia - only 4cm taller and 10kg heavier. If it was Pat - watch out - and i think it was because he played a similar way.
Stocky little Ben Bradley bashed the ball up as always, and the other prop was a stocky Islander who went well.
Parra actually looked a good outfit, but we were lots better. Good hitout.
did you go to the games at windsor against panthers , if so what did u think

Its a trial.

Knights accounted for Manly and Eels quite comfortably the previous few weeks.

Come season start, I doubt either will be a push over.

Regardless, we did look pretty poor on the weekend.

Harold Matts will do it tough, I agree.

SG Ball are better than what we saw on the weekend.

3 kick offs out on the full. 14-4 penalty count against. 2 penalties failing to find touch.

Poor performance all round but in the previous weeks they have shown they can be better.

His name is Mitch Nakhoul, One the 4 boys brought in from the Central Coast. Named on the wing for first round of matches this weekend

This kid looks like one of the Cook Islanders who came over for a trial to me.

Whoever he was, he was a nervous guy who wanted to get involved as much as he could and looked very good when he got a chance.
He was in the Mathews squad that looked to be the A side - so hopefully he is in the final squad.

Thanks for that.
I'd love to know if any of the CI and PNG kids made a squad - does anyone know?
