Players like him can win you a game when the team is not traveling too well . Big asset to have ...

For sure, look at Jimmy the Jet and the other young guy from Wellington for the Broncos the other night vs the RoRters.

2 individual efforts that without, the Broncs would have lost.

When other teams have individuals who get them over the line, it seems it's fine, in fact it's pure magic!!

But when we do it, it seems it's shit.

Ummmm....

The team has been missing a player like Dufty , Dugan never scores these tries if he was still with us . Yea he will make mistakes along the way but will be able to do things that a lot of players cant . SPEED SPEED SPEED ...... Time to start injecting more speed players , Field can be a match winner for us also ....

Yes to Dufty, he is a weapon.
No to Field, he is a touch footy player.

The kid is developing in to a match winner

Very few players can turn a game on its head like Matt can.

So good to have the ability to score long range tries again !!!

How good was it seeing him backing up JDB Through the middle. His kick was perfectly executed on the run with a bit of back spin.

His individual try had the crowd on its feat the second he dummied and cut through the line.

Where are you Dino, speed, speed and more speed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dufty provided numerous moments of brilliance today. He has given us another dimension in attack, that we lacked with Dugan at fullback. He still has to develop parts of his game and hopefully he does so. I saw highlights of him playing in the under 20's and he was providing numerous try assists. I am wondering if Aitken and Lafai are the reason he isn't combining with his centres better?

Poor Dino, he used to cop it from some for saying we needed speed speed and more speed.

But he was right.

Guys, some of you need to apologise to Dino.

Dynamic Dufty soaring as Dragons’ No.1 man

It’s almost been a year to the day since Josh Dugan announced he was leaving St George Illawarra to take up the big bucks he believed he was worth at Cronulla.

But rising star Matt Dufty has proven to be worth the punt as his replacement after sparking the ladder leaders to a 25-18 win over Canberra on Sunday.

Both Dufty and the Dragons were in danger of dropping back-to-back defeats when they bumbled their way to a two-point deficit with 20 minutes to go in Mudgee.

However, the 22-year-old overcame an error-prone start to turn in arguably his best performance of his young career with two moments of individual brilliance in the clutch.

First he set up skipper Gareth Widdop with a clever kick ahead in a 50-metre movement early in the second half, before burning four defenders with his trademark speed to seal the victory.

Dufty admitted he had previously struggled with allowing errors to affect his game, but has revelled in the support of Widdop and the rest of his teammates.

“In (under) 20s, if I made an error it affected me for a while. But coming into grade, everyone makes errors and one error at the start of the game isn’t going to lose you the game,” he said.

“So you’ve just got to let it go. Especially when ‘Gaz’ and everyone are saying, ‘Duff, head up, we’ve got your back.’ It makes you feel better and makes you let things go a bit easier.”

He also said he had grown accustomed to being targeted by opposition teams because of his size.

On separate occasions against the Raiders he was on the receiving end of a high shot from Josh Papalii and a shoulder charge from Joseph Tapine that were both placed on report.

“Teams do that but that’s footy and that’s why we play, you love the contact and the collisions. It makes footy, footy. And if you can’t handle it, it’s not the sport for you,” Dufty said.

“We’ve got a big forward pack ourselves and when they tell you, ‘We’ve got your back, Duff’, it makes you feel a lot better.”

Dragons coach Paul McGregor was pleased to see Dufty bounce back from his disappointing start.

“Sometimes when you’re a young guy in the vigours of playing week to week NRL, when you come up with a couple of errors you can go quiet,” he said.

“But I thought Duff at different stages really grew and got us back in the game through sheer brilliance. He had a mixed day but he certainly makes a point of difference with that speed.

You know after he dropped that ball I just briefly thought perhaps the hype was wrong and , due to his past 2 games not being as good as his first 6 this season, Sides may have worked him out and he will just be a 3 club 50 game player after all .The break and flick pass to Garath, Kick for Garath , the individual try and his improved defence ( which still needs work ) and positioning made me give myself an uppercut.

Small players have and can still make it ( particularly when the inevitable further reduction in interchange happens ) and further improvement to his all round game makes this very exciting. Now forumites WHEN do we give him a contract renewal ?

Very interesting point Frank. Widdorp doesn't have any trouble keeping up with him !

I think that some of our members do not realise how much speed we really do have in the NRL squad. I'd love to see a race matchup between player during the pre-season and the times published on their profile. Guys like Frizell, Sims, McInnes, Widdop, Hunt, Aitken, Dufty and even Macdonald may surprise many.

I'd like to see Nene go on a long range run, unfortunately he's never in the correct position to receive a pass to make a run.
