Matt Dufty

Dufty has the most people I can remember conflicted on whether to keep or not. It is a tough call regardless. My take is, if they do decide to let him go, they need a pretty good replacement and not a risky one where he may or may not come good. The need to be 100% it will be for the better of the team. His attack is really good and will be hard to replace as he can set up a try from nowhere which is rare. Ramsey has some time to show us his qualities. Let see how he goes. it's a shame he will be part of a weaker team with all the injuries/suspensions.
The problem here is not many players can do what Duff does in attack ...... He will be a big loss IMO .....

With the NRL becoming a glorified OZTAG competition - Dufty will be the perfect type of player that will thrive. I say re-sign him.
You can bet that if there was a long line of clubs vying for his signature, we all would know about it. The silence indicates to me that no one is chasing his signature. So either he will stay and be used of the bench or he will be picked up by an ESL Club.

If he is not signed soon we will lose him .... Its coming .....

If another club wants him for next season and beyond, he would have been signed by now.
You are so sure about this are you ? Lets just wait and see .... Every player you have mentioned in your sides none of them have the X factor that Duff has .... What you are forgetting Duff has been playing in a struggling team for the last 3 years .... All the top fullbacks are playing in good teams that dont struggle with defence like we have for years .....

And in typical Dragons style, I can see us with no Dufty and we also miss out on this mysterious other player. Two black eyes coming our way....
Well what I read over the last 77 pages of this Matt Duffy thread is that most people will be happy if we don’t have him!
is this all starting to be a changing of the guard now?
What’s happened to turn this all around?

I'm ok with re-signing Dufty, but not as a fullback. I believe his future is a bench utility and used as a strike weapon. A bit like the way the Warriors used Reece Walsh last weekend.

His overall game is there for everyone to see which is why no other clubs are being linked to him. I believe he’ll get a 12mth extension, I still think he’d be a great bench utility/game breaker. But he’s definitely not our long term fullback.

We’ve got some potential centre’s & wingers coming through in 2022 Sloan, Feagai x 2, Schiller plus Ramsey, Bird & Ravalawa.

Lomax would make a very good fullback, he’s got the build & the skill set ready to go.

But unfortunately not the pace to split defenders.

Walsh is starting fullback DS and will be next year if not from now on
I agree on most things you say DS but I can’t with this one
Dufty is either a starting player at fullback or 6 or not at all

I say that we will regret the day that Dufty is playing for another team and killing it especially against us. It would be so embarrassing and disappointing if this was to happen but nothing we can do to get him re-signed and it will be up to him to perform when he gets back from injury if he wants to stay and another club doesn't dangle a juicy offer to him to leave.

We need someone of his attacking abilities and if he scores a try and assists with a couple more in several games that is what brings excitement to us fans. Yes his defence is very suss but I'd rather a great attacker and those around him do the defensive work.

They will miss him when he is gone if they dont get someone that can attack like him .... If you look at they way the game is now with the changes , Its high scores not much defense .... So yea lets let him walk ....

Well I have always been a supporter and still am. Just wanted to see how he would flourish without the Mary infuence and he has improved his attack but not the finished product in regards to defending the castle.
He is a keeper IMO for the short term at 1 (1-2 yrs) as his final chance to realise his potential or until someone within our club puts their hand up and offers better in 1st grade as I see Cody and or's will take that long minimum to develop physically to handle the 1 jersey and demand the spot for superior attack and defense.
I see no need just yet to spend 1mill + to buy an elite fullback as we may have one within...and what we have now is almost suffice.

Unfortunately at 1...he does not have the luxury or relying on others at times. A 1 has always needed to defend reasonably well at 1st grade level. Attack only is not enough.

Whatever happens, if we don't re-sign him, I for one will miss his blinding speed and those sweet, sweet cutout passes...

I think a good spine would consist of 4 good attackers and 4 good defenders. We don't have this at the moment but when we do, thats when we will dominate. The unfortunate thing is though I will be using a walking stick by then.
