We need Gould to come in and sort it all out. He would:
Take charge of the football side and release the pressure by taking it on himself.
Replace the coaching, fitness and recruitment/pathways staff this season.
Let go players who just aren't up to it.
Promote and recrit players who are prepared to roll their sleeves up and work as a team.

Gould is the only person I believe that could do this job.

A few months ago I would have ignored this option. However, given the players form and attitude, and the fact that we re-signed the coach, and the player roster, I see a lot of hard decisions that may need to be made.

That doesn’t mean I want to sack anyone, or know what changes need to be made. BUT, I think we are at the point where a new view may be needed... without such a change I am not currently confident that the current structure will be able to improve...

So if not Gould, who will step up to drive the obviously needed changes?

BTW, our roster doesn’t need a complete overhaul, it just needs some specific changes and maybe re-focus!

Host has not done anything wrong, but he is and will only become a fringe to average 1st grade player at best.
And we have 3 gun edge forwards who are better in Frizzell, Leilua (has more natural ability but yet to show it enough) & TSims and they should be playing there. Bench spot at best in our club.
He is better off going to another club who may utilise him more..may not be in the NRL.
If Leilua is a better edge, then why is he playing middle?
Because he struggles to read a backline attack. In the middle he just needs to take them straight on. How many tries has he let in over the past couple of seasons on an edge? He has a lazy streak which when he’s really needed he lets the side down.
Yes he has natural ability but has it won us games yet?

You are absolutely right Forster Dragon. No wonder players like Sailor and Dufty had the rickity splits at the end. What a waste of 75 minutes when you are leading and end up losing. Dig deeper fellas!!!

You're both wrong. They didn't actually lose. But agreed, disappointing.

Yes sorry about that rednwhites. It was a draw and yes very disappointing result seeing that several of our players just did not dig deep enough to stop the last Magpie try/conversion, a pity!!

Ask Mary why he puts him and Frizzell and before that TSims in the middle.
He has hardly played long minutes so I would say hardly many tries on an edge he has let in on his defense alone but he created a good one and won us the game against the Tigers last year. (round 22 odd)

That is Mary's focus making yards and defending the middle something we have been lacking with.
If his weaknesses were worked on harder and higher goals set for him, not playing him out of position that he played lower grades where he showed his best potential just to hide those with a bash and barge game. He was a great ball distributor at the line and in a bit of smaller man traffic but because he had a few badly timed and impossible offloads in him leading to errors which could be coached out of him but no..stereotype and turn into a middle player and forget the potential benefit with harder work ethic.
I get and agree with your point re defense but he also struggles to defend and cover in the middle also to due to that lazy ethic as you say.
I like Host but as I had said before if I was coaching and push came to shove he would not be in my starting side at full strength. Maybe positions 14-17..maybe No 18.

I'm getting very used to seeing players wearing the red v jersey not digging deep enough these days. This is a new phenomenon as far as I concerned. These are dark days for fans.

100% correct!
Cost a lot a games due to his defence out wide.
Souths in the final last year just before half time, the first Kogarah game this year again Souths just after he replaced Host.
Two of many, has to play middle!

There is some talk that some players, even those on contract, have been told to look elsewhere.

Dufty is playing like he is one of them.
Thanks for the info.

I was one for giving Dufty a shot to start the year off. I said we should find out this year whether he is a long term prospect or not. He isn't our long term prospect and we should be letting him go. I am happier that we made a decision this year, than next. I also said that we should have only extended his contract for an extra season, not the extra 2 that our club did.

I hope Aitken has been told to look elsewhere. I hope we have tapped Graham on the shoulder and told him it is his last year.

Agree and disagree. he has already cost games in the middle.
Defense can be improved by coaching and he is best suited out wide. If he cant be improved in defense well his days in 1st grade and at our club should be short lived.
We may then see if one of the better coaches can improve him.
Look at Kasiano..even Bellamy could not get him to where he needed to be besides the obvious talent with ball in hand.
Leilua may be tarnished with the same brush but I would perservere out wide and make sure he gets fitter, faster and can defend better than he currently is...before casting him aside.
Our coaching staff just may not have that magic whip.

The problem with being kind, loyal, compassionate and economical is that we usually end up with poor quality or not good enough to be a Saints first grader.

We need a tough, experienced, top line coach to replace Mary.
Gus would make a good football manager who could work with the new first grade coach to hire recruitment and fitness staff and high quality players.

Job done, cleanout achieved, let's start winning again!

DS will be interesting to see the list I HOPE that there are not too many untried players on the list ( timms etc ) We dont need another reuben garrick situation And surely we need at least like for like hopefully improvement for every player leaving .. I can hear salary cap pressure already
